  • Something Got Me

    Sorry I haven't been around to visit your blogs.  Jesse surprised me yesterday with a "going out to dinner for Valentine's Day a week early" surprise.  We loaded all the girls (including JanaLyn) into the car and made the almost hour and a half drive down to Marlow, OK where we've found a favorite Italian restaurant.  It was yummy.  AND, a very nice surprise.

    I woke up this morning feeling, what I thought was, LAZY.  I didn't want to go to church.

    I made chocolate Malt-o-Meal with the intention of forcing myself to get ready for church.  While eating, I realized I didn't feel well.  Not AT ALL.  The left side of my throat was my only "symptom" - kind of swollen or tight.  I had a feeling I could only describe as shaky inside or like I had fizzy blood.  You know the feeling where the world races by in a blur (even thought it's routine activity) and all you can say is, "huh?"????

    Anyway, I quickly determined I needed to go back to bed.  I have been chilled and had horrible shooting pains and body aches all day.

    I think I'll cancel the girls' dental appointment tomorrow.

    Anyway, I'll write more and add pictures soon - when I feel better.

    Jesse bought me a new printer today.  I don't even want to look at the pamphlet or try installing it.  I have no energy.

    With that, I'll close and say, "Please pray for my quick recovery."

  • Saturday Morning & Company

    No, not *real* company.  Our usual weekend visitor, JanaLyn, kind of company!

    JanaLyn arrived a little early last night.  Stephanie wanted to meet some friends for dinner.  I had made Tater Tot Casserole (just meat and tater tots, this time) and JanaLyn said, "Granny, you know what?  You're the best cook in the whole world!  Nobody cooks like my Granny!"  Awwwwww!  She says that almost every time she eats here!  I used to think my grandmas were the best cooks, too!

    =========================================

    I've succeeded in making another mess.  I worked in the foster children's room yesterday.  I got a LOT done.  I moved more around inside of the cupboards, purging more homeschool stuff.  I found a box that *I thought* contained Charity Ministry Tapes, but actually had all kinds of old papers and photos.  The purged home school books, coloring books, and activity books, along with the box of memorabilia where stacked on my "ever-crowded-desk" and I went through SOME of it yesterday, before dinner time.  I found early pictures of the girls and even letters from my Grandma to me after the San Francisco earthquake in 1988.  Also, a eulogy from my uncle's memorial service - so funny and SO HIM!!!  What a treasure trove!

    I switched the beds around, putting the twin bed next to the wall and up on risers under the bed's frame.  The girls put the risers in place while I lifted the bed and frame - Not once, but THREE times!!!!  No wonder I'm a little stiff today!  I'm not sure I feel the bed is completely safe, it rocks a bit, but being against the wall should lend some support.  Now, storage bins fit nicely under the bed.  The double bed is on rollers and can be moved away from the closet door if we need to open it really wide.  I didn't trust the double bed on risers AT ALL, so that's why I switched them around.

    I pulled the twin quilt down to hide the gangling long looking legs of the twin bed.  There are two storage bins under the twin bed and the space could easily hold another bin.

    I also worked on the shelves above the cupboards to make two of them empty for the children's possessions.

    All that is left on those shelves are wall things to be hung "somewhere" or put into storage.

    I took pictures of the small wall with the bird pictures by one bed and posted those several weeks ago.  Yesterday, I created a grouping over the other bed with different heart things I've collected.

    All very girly looking.  I still haven't decided on curtains for this room.  I can't buy anything until we get our tax refund back, anyway.  And that would require me *filing* our taxes!!!

    ==============================================

    I spent a lot of time going through that box of memorabilia and then tossing activity and coloring books that were at least 3/4 used up. I have so many.  Some women collect shoes and, I think, I must collect books for my children!  There is much more order in the homeschool cupboards in that room and all books that are too young for my girls are now gone.

    ==============================================

    Remember me saying Luci's laundry basket was more than overflowing for clothes worn in a 5/6 day period?  Well, I didn't get to her laundry and yesterday morning she had a pile swelling out of her laundry hamper.  I looked at the new "dirty" clothes and realized they were two dresses she had put on yesterday that I had told her "no" she couldn't wear outside to play.  Rather than hang them up, they ended up in the clothes basket.  Sooooo, Miss Luci Lu learned how to do laundry yesterday.  She had to finish it up this morning before she could go out and play.  On top of that, I went to retrieve hangers from her closet and found she had hung her things without buttoning the top button, and they were already falling off of the hangers.  So, she ALSO had to button everything before she could go out and play.  She wasn't happy in the least bit.  I calmly told her, "I don't like doing that much laundry, either.  If you throw clean clothes (including socks that are still folded together and not worn) in your laundry basket, you will do your own laundry, again."  She's been released to the outdoors - FINALLY!!!

    ===============================================

    Before sitting down here to type, I went outside to check on them and took my camera.  It is VERY windy today, but warm enough to be outside.  The wind didn't stop them from constructing their own city.  These are all the pieces from their play house and big toy climbing gym that is too small for them.

    They found a wind blown horse "in the pasture" that Luci and JanaLyn were attempting to turn upright.

    Look at the wind blowing JanaLyn's hair and dress sideways!!!

    With pieces of their old toys, the constructed an entrance to their "city" which really impressed me!

    Same city after the wind blew down the entire wall!

    After really pushing hard, they got it back up and standing, again!  JanaLyn was proud!

    I moved the dog house over to support the wall JanaLyn is standing in front of.

    Of course, Sushi was outside in the middle of it all and having the time of her life.  She loves when we go outside with her!

    I saw Rissy's dress ballooning out and HAD to get a picture before coming inside!

    That's how *I* look in a dress!  Big hips and rear-end!

    I came inside, only to find Chirper chewing up the corner of the area rug that Sushi had left behind to go outside.

    I don't know of anyway to repair a chewed corner, so, I don't get too upset anymore.  I think this rug is toast.  This is one of two corners some pet or an other has chewed on in the past seven years.  They don't bother the same rug we have in our bedroom, just this one rug and always the corner that is in this place!  ????  Strange pets, I know!!!!!

    I don't have much on my agenda today.  Jesse is taking the day off and, with an extra girl to watch, I'm playing it by ear.  I WILL try to go through the piles on my desk.  They aren't in disarray (I've organized the piles) but definitely look unsightly.  No pictures of my desk today!!!

    Only one or two chapters left in my book.  Oh!  I also cleaned and rearranged my bedroom's book shelves, yesterday.

    Dinner tonight?  Who knows???

    Be blessed  ~

  • Friday News

    We had a nice day yesterday with Jesse being around the house.  The Chinese food buffet wasn't so bad after all.  There was no need for me to eat dinner in the evening (Jesse didn't, either) and I found some leftover vegetable beef soup I had made, which was just enough for the girls' dinner.  We came home after lunch and the girls played outside (a beautiful day) and Jesse napped while I laid beside him reading in my book.  It's not a horrible story, but it's just not capturing my attention this time.  I'm just about finished with the book.

    =====================================

    This sweet little guy woke me up this morning.

    He was in an extremely affectionate mood and purring up a storm.  I'm laughing at this picture.  He still has sleep in his eyes!  Jesse got up around 6am and I was trying to sleep a little longer, but Chirper wouldn't let me.  I think since Jesse was up, he wanted me up, too.

    ======================================

    I went to my child raising study group last night.  It was a good meeting because people really opened up and shared.  I stayed to talk with the other two women in the group and didn't leave until after 9:45p.  It's not a long drive home - maybe only 20 minutes - but, it's all back roads in the country and I worry about something happening to my car or me being in an accident and no one knowing.

    I guess I had good reason for the extra concern last night.  I pulled into our driveway and, when I got out of the vehicle, heard a loud hissing sound.  I ran in to get Jesse and told him it sounded like a tire, but it might be a radiator hose.  Sure enough, it was the front driver's side tire.  The valve stem was leaking like crazy.  I'm sure the tire is flat as a pancake this morning.  I pulled out of the driveway and backed the car back in so a tow truck could be called this morning.  We have AAA auto club - so the towing will be free - AND, the tires are under warranty and will cost nothing to be repaired.  BUT, I have no way to get to the tire place to pick up the vehicle.  So, I went ahead and canceled the girls' therapy appointment.  I'M SO GLAD IT DIDN'T HAPPEN ON A COUNTRY BACK ROAD!!!!!!

    My character booklets arrived in the mail yesterday - exciting for me!  They are only $4/each and BEAUTIFUL!!!  They are perfect to go along with the bigger books, "Character Sketches From the Pages of Scripture."  Those are the books that I bought a few weeks ago at a dirt cheap price - less than $10/each and in new condition.  They sell for $40/each when ordered new!  THEN, the class I attended last night is hitting the area of teaching children moral character (wow! what timing!).  Not only that, but the CD I've been listening to (called "The Godly Home" by Denny Kenaston) has also been teaching about moral character that parents are instructed in the Bible to teach their children.  I told Jesse this morning, it's been a long time since I've really been excited and on fire about learning something.  God has been speaking to me (and to Jesse, separately) about training our children to have a heart for God and His kingdom.  The information and instructions have all come together so nicely; and, I thank God for orchestrating it all.  I take child rearing very seriously and want to do all that God expects from me.

    =======================================

    It was nice, getting up a little earlier than usual this morning, because it gave me a little bit longer to visit with Jesse before he had to leave for work.  He said he'd take off work a bit early in order to pick up my vehicle before the tire place closes.  We were able to talk about teaching our children God's ways and it was such a sweet time for me.  I feel encouraged by my husband and very much at peace.  Hard to put into words - but it's an enormous peace!

    ========================================

    After Jesse got up to take a shower, I focused more on the little animal that had been snuggled up beside him.

    She loves her time with her Daddy, too!!!

    Perfect and precious, isn't she?

    Perfect and precious if you ignore this . . .
    .

    GASP!!!  No, not Sushi's fault?????!!!!  This used to sit on a sofa table behind my sofa on top of a lace runner.  She couldn't help but pull the corner of the runner that hung over the edge of the sofa table.  A tempting morsel for her little teeth!  She pulled my vase down and it landed with a crash.  The girls were afraid she was going to be in big trouble!

    This HAD BEEN one of my favorite pieces.  I've always thought it was pretty - AND, it matched my den.  But, like almost everything in my house, it really didn't cost much.  I think it was less than $10.00.  I'll try to glue it back together and see how it looks.  (sigh)

    The price you sometimes have to pay for babies and baby animals!

    ===================================================

    I was looking at Rissy yesterday during lunch.  She had on a short sleeve t-shirt with a long denim skirt.  I think she is moving up another size!  She was the one who couldn't gain weight as an infant and small child.  Suddenly, she is now blossoming (everywhere)!  I laugh at all the scary prognosis' they doctors were telling me "could" happen with her.  She's fine and VERY filled out!

    My sleepy children this morning right after they woke up!

    Annamarie (don't know why this is so blurry)

    Rissy

    And, Luci who still isn't feeling 100% well.  The stomach bug has hung on the longest with her.

    Today's To Do List:
    *  Finish children's laundry
    *  Empty ashes from fireplace (it's supposed to be a week of warmer temperatures)
    *  Keep on with the tax preparation (this year's taken the most work and TIME!!!)
    *  Teach (an easy and light day)
    *  Bake "Mrs. Hullet's banana bread"
    *  Work in foster children's room
    *  Dinner will probably be Tater Tot Casserole - already have the meat thawing
    *  Mend and teach Annamarie how to make stitches

    I probably won't get to everything on the list, or I might dabble with all things.  I seem to be starting a lot of projects and not completing any of them.  I've moved my mending to the den (on the side of the sofa) and need to prepare a little box with needle, thread in basic colors, and scissors.  I figure I can mend while I'm watching TV - which isn't very often, but the thought is there!!!

  • Thursday Thirteen #44

    No Thursday Thirteen site working again this week.  It's been so long since I've been to their site, maybe they left the Internet a long time ago and I didn't know it.

    So, my own version of

    THURSDAY THIRTEEN
    13 Things Happening Today

    1.  Today is my youngest brother's birthday (48yo).  HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RICH!!!!!!

    2.  Today Jesse is off work all day.  Yay!!!!!!

    3.  But, Jesse isn't here (Boooooooooo!), he's at a medical appointment this morning.

    4.  Jesse invited me to lunch today.  Chinese food buffet - AGAIN (ick).  Oh well, it's time spent with him.  Wait, I should clarify that first sentence  . . . he invited *me* which includes 3 little girls.  Not exactly date night, but how most of our date nights are - with child!

    5.  I'm half way through finishing the organization of receipts from gasoline and purchases made for Jesse's lawn business.  This has been the hardest task while preparing to file our taxes.  I thought the envelopes with each month's name on them would be sufficient, and it IS better than nothing, but there is a lot of weeding out, throwing away, and sorting that needs to be done within each envelope.  I plan to make another dent in that work today.

    6.  I have to wash the clothes belonging to two children.  I think they try something on, don't like it or change their mind, and put it in the clothes hamper instead of back on a hanger.  There's no way Luci's laundry was all done this last weekend and the basket was over flowing, again, yesterday.  I smell a rat!

    7.  Annamarie was doing something foolish with the dog and Sushi bit and ripped one of her new dresses.  I will teach Annamarie to sew today (or in the very near future).  This should be interesting!

    8.  Not a clue in the world what to fix for dinner.  If we are eating a big lunch, dinner can be light.  But, we need *something* for dinner, nonetheless.

    9.  We're supposed to have fairly decent weather today and the girls are begging to go outside and ride their bikes.  However, Annamarie is still having ear problems (I may just put cotton in her ear) and Luci is still complaining of stomach cramps - nothing I can do about that.  I'm not sure if fresh air will heal them or hurt them.

    10.  I have my child raising class this evening.  We didn't meet last Thursday, the roads were covered with ice.  This is turning into a VERY long commitment of more months than I had first thought.  We had to skip several Thursday nights for schedule conflicts, holidays, and then the weather.  It's a great class and I love the people leading the class, Reba and Glenn, so I'll continue to stick it out.

    11.  Jesse is excited about his imprisonment at the pawn shop coming to an end in the near future.  He's already cutting back to 4 days a week and will eventually leave to start up the lawn business again.  I'll enjoy having him around an extra day or two!

    12.  The house is in fairly decent shape except for vacuuming.  The girls haven't been allowed to watch much TV and so they voluntarily clean.  I'm not going to complain about that!  I'll try to vacuum today.

    13.  I continue to train my (Jesse's) dog, Sushi.  She rates at a "brilliant" level of intelligence.  Unfortunately, that herding instinct keeps overriding her ability to obey the "No bite kitty" command.  Or, "No bite girls" command.  She ran circles around the dining room table after trapping Stormy on a chair under the table.  She was running speed races around the table until she ran into me and I picked her up.  Her feet were still running as I lifted her.  Immediately, she looked at me and her ears dropped back and close to her head.  I said, "No, no!  No bite kitty!"  Stormy was indignant about the whole episode because she made it quite clear the day Sushi arrived that she hated Sushi and Sushi should NEVER bother her.  Sushi bothered her today.  Oops!  Bad dog!

  • Busy Monday, Long Night, Tired Tuesday

    Yesterday's doctor visit was lengthy.  Not because we took a long time, but the doctor was running about 45 minutes behind.  That's a long time to be cooped up in a small exam room with three little girls!  Luci's exam was uneventful, and the doctor was pleased she is doing so well and doesn't want to see her back for three months, rather than two months.

    We stopped at Wal-Mart on the way home.  I had forgotten some things the other day, PLUS, Rissy made a decision about what she wants to do for last big birthday party (we cut off the elaborate parties after the 8th birthday).  She decided on a tea party with hearts and pink flowers.  It's all  SO VERY Rissy!  Since she wants hearts, we are shopping for Valentine things that don't say "Happy Valentine's Day" on them!  I'll take pictures on her birthday when everything is decorated, but I have to say, of all my daughters, she and Stephanie have the best eye for color coordination.  I think her table will be beautiful.  She chose hearts on her plates and napkins (in pink & red) and some flowers for a center piece with cream and the same shade of pink and red flowers as her plates.  Then, she bought some white pens with white feathers and red hearts dangling and some little red heart suckers (miniature) on an 18 inch stick.  She wants the pens and suckers worked into the floral arrangement and will hand them out AFTER the party.  She bought little votive cups and salt and pepper shakes (to use as miniature flower holders) with pink or red candles and some of the silk roses from her centerpiece will be used in the mini flower arrangement at each plate.  All of it is just so feminine and darling.  She is very pleased.  Anyway, we had to get a heart shaped cookie cutter (large) so her finger sandwiches could be cut into heart shapes.  We bought some conversation hearts for the foyer's candy dish.

    We also bought some Valentine cookies (some will be frozen to use as party favors at Rissy's birthday party) and we are just loaded up on goodies around here!

    AND, we bought maple and chocolate covered donuts for breakfast this morning!  There used to be six of each!

    Luci's stomach is still giving her problems, so she chose something less rich and more healthy to eat!

    A big juicy pear!  (Coloring in these pictures is awful, but the best I can do for now.)

    I cleaned almost all of our homeschool stuff (and papers) and supplies after the doctor appointment.  I'm not quite done, but much closer than I was yesterday morning.  At least we were able to eat off of the kitchen table last night!  The girls have been clearing a small place around the piles of homeschool stuff (junk!) to eat and Jesse and I have been eating off of our laps in the den or sitting at the formal dining room table.  I rather like the dining room.  The formality of it makes even meatloaf taste "elegant"!!!!!!  Instead of red or black place mats, I chose the cream ones for a change.  They don't look right with the centerpiece of fruit, but it's a change and I'm liking change right now!

    I spent a lot of time in the foster children's room after we were finished with school (no easy accomplishment - school, that is!).  All of the games in the cupboard (messy, broken boxes, and pieces everywhere) have been put back together with taped boxes and stored up high.  Now permission from Her Royal Majesty must be granted before a game can be used!!!

    Do we slightly resemble the game shelves at Wal-Mart or Target???  My girls have no idea how blessed they are with things like this!

    I removed the tempura paint (2 bins of stuff) and it will be stored in MY room.  I don't want a foster child getting any redecorating ideas!  A dozen or more large bottles of tempura paint would be a little too tempting, in my opinion!

    I have a barren set of cupboards for the new children's use and have to work on the shelves above.  I still have wall things to hang and some books I've read that will probably be stored on the very top shelf (a high one) and the children's things can be place in front of the books OR greenery like you see in the picture.

    That's Chirper IN the cupboard!  And, a few activity books on the bed that need to be sorted.

    Chirper couldn't believe all that I'd clean out!  It looked like a barren wasteland to him!

    It all looks mighty different!  That's for sure!

    The clothes hampers, clean blankets, and packages of new sheets and pillows are in a corner waiting to be used.

    Dinner last night was something new.  I bought a parmesan Shake 'n' Bake and large boneless chicken breasts.  I made angel hair pasta.  To the cooked and drained pasta, I added olive oil, basil (some of the last dried from my summer plants) and a bit of red pepper flakes.  I just made a simple salad to go with the chicken and pasta and it really hit the spot.  I'm so tired of the same food cooked the same way!

    Last night, right before going to bed I started with a headache - more in my face than the back of my head, where they usually manifest.  I took two of my headache pills with no relief.  I had to wait 4 hours before taking Jesse's migraine pills.  I took one at 2:00am and another one at 5:00am.  When I *did* sleep, I was dreaming that I had a headache.  I'm a pretty weary this morning.  I had some coffee and took some Ibuprofen (the new Imitrex pills have Ibuprofen in them) and feel relief - FINALLY.  But, the thought of teaching school and finishing the guest room AND laundry makes me flinch!  A shower and reading in my book sounds much more appealing.  BUT, I know how easy it is for me to get behind and I don't relish the thought of making up for lost time later in the week.

    As I went around the house taking pictures this morning, my amateur photographer was right behind me taking shots of *MY* points of interest!  Like the empty cupboard and bookshelves!

    Dark, dark coloring despite the ceiling fan light being on and my flash.

    Oh well, they're photographs and I didn't have those, up until recently - thanks to my friend, Tina!

    Today's To Do List:
    *  My laundry
    *  Teach school
    *  Finish foster children's room
    *  Forget the cake I was going to bake (we have enough cookies, now!)
    *  Pay a few bills
    *  Dinner?????  We're back to:  Ground beef or chicken?  Ground beef or chicken?  Ground beef or chicken?

    I think that's about all I can handle and if I accomplish most of that list, I'll be pleased!

    Be Blessed  ~

  • Not Me

    It seems we've had an addition to our family without me knowing it.  Someone called, "Not Me."

    "Not Me" is very messy and causes problems, usually, only in the girls' room or in their bathroom.

    The girls have seen "Not Me" because they know exactly when "Not Me" has done something.

    I asked Luci and Annamarie who left this mess in their room behind the closet door and they were quick to tell me "Not Me!"

    There was a mess on the floor on Annamarie's side of the bed.  All of the things on the floor belonged to Annamarie; but, she told me "Not Me" had made the mess..

    I looked in the bathroom, around the toilet, and asked, "Who keeps missing the waste basket in here?"  This time I heard a chorus of voices claiming, "Not Me" had been the culprit.

    All I know is that "Not Me" isn't welcome here.  "Not Me" is VERY messy and none of the girls like cleaning up after "Not Me."  They look at me as if I were a cruel task master when I MAKE THEM clean up "Not Me's" messes.

    Notice that "Not Me" doesn't know how to put a new roll of toilet paper on the toilet paper holder.  It used to be that my girls didn't know how to do that, either, except I taught them how.  I KNOW they know how to change the rolls out.  So, it MUST BE "Not Me" that left that half used toilet paper roll on the counter!

    Onto other topics.  Luci has an appointment with the medical doctor as a routine check up on her medication.  Don't know when we'll hear back about the lovely stool sample I gathered.

    Having a real problem with Sushi playing to rough with Chirper.  Did some reading online today about Australian Cattle Dogs (otherwise referred to as ACD's) and found out they don't do well with cats unless they are trained early.  Guess I'll be diligently training Sushi EARLY - more like, IMMEDIATELY.  Unfortunately, Chirper keeps going back to her and making his body a tempting morsel.  The ACD's CAN be trained and that's what I'm going to do, but I will never leave the two alone.  Don't trust Sushi's instinct.  She is behaving so well for me - better than she does for Jesse.  I barely have to raise my voice (unless she is playing so hard she doesn't hear me) and can say "No!" or "Stay" quietly and I have immediate obedience.  I'm finding it's not much different than child training and is all about consistency of discipline.

    There are sweet moments with Sushi and Chirper, don't get me wrong, but I'm keeping an eagle eye on the two.

    This reminds me of "The lion shall lie down with the lamb . . . "

    They really are cute and sweet together . . . when they are sleeping!

    Today's To Do List:
    *  Luci's doctor appointment
    *  Jesse's and one child's laundry
    *  Bake a cake
    *  Finish cleaning the school stuff off the kitchen table
    *  Teach
    *  Decide what to pull from the freezer for dinner

    Rissy continues to only complain of bruised muscle, praise God!  Thanks again for all of the support this weekend!

    Praise God!  Rissy hasn't had any outcome from her accident except a very sore muscle in the small of her back.  She hasn't had any blood in her urine and there is no bruising.

    The whole thing left me shaken and I wasn't good for much of anything, yesterday.  I went out to the garage freezer and ended up leaning against the freezer crying.  She really scared me.  I felt numb most of the day and kept checking her to be sure she was doing well.  I gave her a hug later, while I was eating dinner last night, and started crying again while I held her.

    When she didn't breath, didn't cry, couldn't make eye contact (eyes were glazed over), and didn't move, I was so afraid.  I realized she might have broken her back as I held her upright in a standing position.  Dumb!  I felt helpless and like I was doing everything wrong . . . and *I* have medical training!

    I finished the book I was reading and started a new one.  Anything to get my mind off of Rissy.

    So, today is a new day and she seems to be only bruised or sore INSIDE.

    Thank you EVERYONE who prayed.  Those prayers meant so much to me!

    We're home today, Rissy resting, Luci staying off of her sore leg and watching what she eats, Annamarie taking her ear medicine and watching what SHE eats, and me trying to remember what a normal day was like!

    I'm roasting a turkey breast and 3 turkey legs for our Super Bowl celebration later.  I forgot the sweet potatoes or yams.  Oh well, I may do mashed white potatoes and turkey gravy.

    That's about it from here.  Thanks again to each one of your who took your time to pray.
