A Day at a Glance
Hot Weather Prevails:
It’s not even 11am and the temperature is 90° – another warm one!!
Frantically, I’m doing Jesse’s laundry and the sheets from two beds before the temperatures are too hot for the air conditioner to keep up.
My plan is to mix up the dry ingredients for snickerdoodles, oatmeal raisin, and chocolate chip cookies and stick them in ziplock bags in the freezer. I write the liquid ingredients and baking info on the bag.
Swimming Pools:Jesse bought the girls a new pool and set it up Monday.
Don’t get excited
It’s not more than another wading pool. The smallness makes the water’s temperatures feel like a bath. Rissy calls it their hot tub!!!!!!
The little pool is better than nothing.
Jesse also brought a big pool home (including a pump), yesterday, from a customer who just gave it to him for free. We’ll see if it ever gets set up THIS summer! LOL!!
Since the girls and I plan to go to church tonight, we’ll all bathe early and then play INSIDE where there is no grime or sweat! Rissy will get to try out her new LARGE PRINT KJV Bible we bought last week.
I bought some excellent board games a while back, and this would be a good day to spend time together and just “chill” (literally!!!!) in the house. Then, we’ll still smell good when it’s time to go to church!!! LOL!!!
Redecorating for Summer:Yesterday, I changed the bedspreads on Rissy’s beds. She had a fluffy white eyelet comforter on both beds, but the comforter is a bit heavy for summer. Beside the fact she loves pink and green, the floral bedspread is lighter and gave her room a huge new look!
(Yes, I over did things and pulled my back muscles!
)
The stuff on the floor is her little pillows and stuffed animals that sit on top of the bed, once it is made!
Books:
I’ve been reading a lot (huge amounts!) of fiction and true story books for quite a while. Last night I looked through my bookshelves and chose a totally different type of book. It’s about the “plain people” and how they lived through the 1920s to 1940s. People have written little articles about what they remember and each entry is never more than 2 1/2 pages. It’s easy to pick up for a few minutes of reading here and there.
I gave a bunch of my favorite books to my friend, Lori, when she was here last week. She gets all of the books that I have found to be interesting.
Lori knows me so well and knows I love pretty dishes, pretty paper, and pretty stationery. She gave me some of both and they were so pretty, it took me until today to open them up!
My other “previously read books,” collect dust on a special book shelf, until a visitor shows interest in a book – then those are passed on, too.
Nightly Devotional Readings:
I have three books I read at night – the kind with the dates of the year – daily devotions..
I’ve been reading (since the first of January) “Simple Abundance” by Sarah Ban Breathnach which IS NOT a Christian devotion book. It DOES have some great ideas about how to find out what *things* make you happy. Because of this book, I’ve begun a journal, reading and logging/reviewing lots of books, and writing snail mail notes to people, on pretty and feminine stationery.
One of my gifts from Lori:
Isn’t the box pretty? The cards with “silver” envelopes! Woo hoo!The second book I’ve been reading since the first of January is, Manna in the Morning, which I think indicates it’s to be read at the start of each day. I don’t read when I start my day. I stumble to the kitchen for several cups of coffee and try not to walk into any walls. Reading at night, for me, goes a lot better!
The third book, I purchased last week. It’s a popular title, but I didn’t have a copy. My Utmost for His Highest, by Oswald Chambers. *THIS* book, I’m loving. I’m sure any of you who also have a copy know what I mean!
Cooking:
I continue to experiment with new recipes. I found a really good apple/pineapple upside down cake which the family agreed they liked. And, I’m making a simple pound cake (I think) this morning.
This is the time of year when I add fruit to my green salads. Last Sunday’s salad had dried cranberries, walnuts, and mandarin oranges tossed with the greens.
Well, well, the laundry (dryer signal) is calling me!
Be Blessed ~

Our pool is set up (we totally skipped it last year) & the kids want to be out there constantly! Taryn’s been trying to talk me into going out today so she can swim. It’s hot & when *I* think it’s hot, you know it must be sweltering. They were in it all weekend & everyone got burnt. Taryn’s a little less burnt than anyone else, but she’s fighting w/ fever blisters instead of skin blisters.
I kept trying to tell them…. They’re all looking MUCH better today, though! If it wasn’t so hot, I’d not mind them swimming. Ah well… lotsa water & time!
Keep cool. The kids certainly love water, even small pools. We always had trouble with raccoons getting into our pools like that.
Funny,I am much the same in the morning, need my coffee, but I read along with it to wake up!
Our weather today has been HUMID! We actually had an earthquake, the epi-centre was north of Ottawa and it registered 5.1, we felt the tremor where I work, which is northeast of Toronto! Now there are tornado warnings…nothing so far but it’s still HUMID and the wind is picking up and there’s rumblings of thunder…my goodness!
Years ago I devoured My Utmost For My Highest, over and over again. It’s been a long time since I’ve picked it up, I should dig it out because I clearly remember how moved I was by it.
Lovely stationary…so pretty!
Blessings for your week~Dawne
I have to use a rubber band to keep my copy of My Utmost for His Highest together! I too, enjoy that book! In just 13 days, I will be experiencing some of that nice, hot, humid weather, too! My daughter bought me a ticket to come see her in NY! I am not used to the heat, so it is going to be a challenge. Still, to spend time with her and my grandson makes it all worth it! I love the idea of adding extra goodies to salads. Sounds yummy!

I’m glad you told me when you are leaving. Please message me telling me when you plan to return home. I’ll wait on my mail out to y’all. xoxo
I’ll be back in Denmark August 5th. At least, my body will be back. My heart might take a little longer. :-/ You know how those good byes can be.
looks like you got the same pool as us! we put ours on the car port which is under roof, only problem is they say its too cold! I thought it would be better cause we had the same problem of it feeling like bath water too! who knows maybe it will warm up enough for them, we put some chlorine in it, and so far its kept pretty clean. I have always loved pretty stationary too! I’ve gotten away from buying any the last few years, where do you find it anymore?
@floridayankees -
We chlorinate our pools too. Stationery comes from Ebay, mostly. It takes a while to browse through all the different designs on Ebay, but if you put a few key words in like, “hyacinth” or “violets”, you can narrow the search field. I don’t know where Lori found mine. If you keep your eyes open, you will find it occasionally, here and there. Barnes & Noble has some ephemera cards I love. You know, the bathing beauties of 1905, or chubby, curly headed children with a basket of flowers? ? ? . . . Reminds me of my grandma’s keepsakes!
Just stopped to say hello and see how you’re doing. I pray well. Doesn’t it feel good to feel good?
Hugs my friend.

Yes, Kelly, it feels wonderful. I can’t believe how horrible I felt this time last year! Amazing! God is so good!
