Stopping for a Brief Pause
I don’t have much time. I loaded my day up yesterday. And, I did too much. The girls’ therapist had an emergency dental appointment, and asked if I could bring the girls at 3pm – much later than usual.
We had already been to an eye doctor appointment for the girls, another store to order the eye glasses, Wal-Mart for a few odds and ends, back home to let the dogs in from the backyard, and to give us a moment to regroup.
By the time we got to the therapy appointment, I realized it was a mistake. Usually, I lie down around 3 – 3:30pm to rest my back muscles (that’s on a *regular* day), and I was in quite a bit of pain when I arrived at the office. I explained to the girls’ therapist my lack of judgment and asked her to keep the session short.
Rissy wasn’t feeling well, so she stayed with me. I ran to make a bank deposit, and then came back to the grocery store in the same block as the doctor’s office. We sat in the car for about 15 minutes, then went into the grocery store. Rissy absolutely insisted I not bend to pick up even a can of green beans, and she put everything in the cart for me. Then, she unloaded everything at the check out stand.
We drove to the back of the parking lot and parked outside the doctor’s office and sat another 10 minutes.
We went in to get the two other girls, and I found the therapist testing Luci’s reading skills. She said she’d finish up the other half of Luci’s test and give Rissy both parts next week. She had already finished Annamarie’s testing.
Since they aren’t in public school and they all have “special needs,” I like to have them tested every so often so I can make sure (AND have a documented report) that they are advancing. The therapist said I should be given a teaching medal.
Annamarie was reading 4th grade words and comprehended some of them! Luci even could read a few 4th grade words. Both of them are in 1st grade books in homeschool. She said the test was especially telling of our home school’s quality, because a public school teacher knows what to teach, based on what will be on a standardized test. I, on the other hand, had no knowledge of test information or format.
I expect Rissy to do well, also.
Despite being confident that homeschool is a better option for my 3 girls, I always wonder how I am doing as a teacher.
We are going to pick up the eye glasses today and pick up some prescriptions that weren’t ready yesterday afternoon.
Chores are finished.
School is finished.
Laundry is going along on schedule.
Dinner will be some leftover turkey breast meat in a “Tuna Helper” dinner called tetrazzini. Easy cooking and clean up.
Then we can relax and enjoy the weekend with nothing pressing except my baking a cake for Sunday’s dinner.
Friend, Margaret, is stopping by tomorrow morning – YAY! The visit will be almost instantaneously short, as they are just passing through. She’s picking up some of my books for her daughter, who loves horses.
I pray everyone has a lovely weekend!
Be Blessed ~

Wonderful news about the girls school progress…that’s gotta feel good!
I hope you didn’t push it too hard that you pay for it over the weekend. I had my doc appt. and he said I was experiencing spasms from a pulled muscle and the pain radiates through the whole body…that’s why I was feeling the all over pain. I got a muscle relaxant with acestaminaphine and it’s helped ALOT!!! I felt a little silly that I didn’t just go to the pharmacy to see what was available but the all over pain was throwing me off. Now I know.
I hope you do have a nice relaxing weekend. Take care~Dawne
You be blessed as well.
Take some rest. You do an awesome job!
Great to know the girls are doing well. I think it’s great that you have this assessment done. I am sure it was a real encouragement to you, too. REST you BACK!
Sounds like you’re doing great!
I’ve been wanting to post all week but haven’t had the time.
You are an amazing teacher. I’m glad that someone with whom you cannot argue told you that as well.
wonderful~~ take it easy!
