  • Pinks & Greens

Yesterday was a beautiful and sunny day.  Lots of wind - but VERY bright and cheerful.  I think it reached 67°!

    Not so, today!

We have 3 different weather systems moving through our state in the next week, bringing mainly rain and possibly snow.  Winter isn't quite finished with us!

I had my IV yesterday - uneventfully - and we ran to the Christian book store before picking up the girls at their appointment.  We bought Annamarie and Rissy NIV Bibles that are made for their age group.  Annamarie's birthday is next month, Rissy's on 27th of this month.

I bought a journal for myself.  I had intended to look at them *if* we had time, but they were right inside the door as you entered the store.  Only $3.99, too!  I bought a journal and a bookmark.  Nice little treat for myself!

Yesterday I got all of Rissy's presents in tissue paper and in white boxes.  They are stacked on the shelf in my closet.

I hauled the wrapping paper and ribbon in from the garage.  "Her colors" are pastel pink and mint green" - not neon pink and green.

I showed her a gift sack in those colors (pink and green) and she loved it, AND, she asked if I could make her cake look like the middle picture on the gift sack!

I feel bad.  She asked for a coconut cake covered with grated coconut and dressed with red cherries.  We can't find a coconut cake mix anywhere, and believe me, we've looked!  She settled yesterday for a lemon cake with blueberries folded in it and cream cheese frosting.  Then, after seeing the gift sack cake, she sighed and said, "Oh yeah, I'm having lemon and blueberry cake."  She rarely asks for anything and the fact I can't give her the cake she wants makes me feel sad.  Such a little request.  I told her I could make a French vanilla cake and use cream cheese and strawberry frosting in swirls like I had used on our Valentine cake and *that* would kind of look like the cake in the picture.  She lit up and said, "You mean you can make it pink and fluffy?"

So, pink and fluffy she shall have!

The pink and fluffy Valentine cake.

The cleaning lady is supposed to come today and I haven't heard from her - I hope that is a good sign and she is still planning to come.  I have to get things ready for her, in that I remove counter top or desk items so she can clean the surfaces.  I've done that so many times, only to get a call that she couldn't come!  So frustrating!

I need to check the children's homework and teach some school.  Today is spelling test day (oh thrill, NOT)!

    Be Blessed  ~

  • Hi Cherylyn, good to see you as energetic as ever :) Tell Rissy that I love her choice of colors. A funny coconut cake story -- when I was in first grade, I asked for a coconut cake for my birthday party -- my mom made a wonderful cake, but unfortunately, the wind wreaked havoc during my outdoor party and the coconut literally blew off the cake :) Enjoy your day and be blessed ~ Laurie

  • Your journal is gorgeous!  I have a couple, but I find it so much easier to type than write, hence why I post pretty much every day...

It's funny... Cam's just the opposite... She loves NEON green & HOT pink!  Forget the pastels w/ her!

    Happy weekend!

  • I do hope your cleaning lady showed up!

I'm sure you will come up with something to honor Rissy's request and she'll be tickled pink!

I do hope your cleaning lady showed up!
Nope! She didn't. I told her I was sorry but I was going to have to let her go. She started to talk saying she understood, blah, blah, blah (a bad habit of hers - talking too much) and I simply said, Good-bye. I called the service and asked for a replacement. (sigh) Then I cleaned my house until Rissy stopped me, which is when I realized I'd over done it. I went to bed to lie down and Rissy finished up. Oh well, I lived and the house is the cleanest it's been since a maid started coming in January!!!!

  • Christian bookstores are wonderful places! I wish we had such things here. I a sure Rissy's cake will be lovely. I wonder if you can buy coconut extract? If you made a vanilla cake and used that, and then put real coconut in the frosting it would be coconutty, yeah? I like the sound of the other ones, too, though. Who's kiddin' who? I like CAKE! Glad the IV went well. Did you get a lot of reading done?

  • My daughter cleans houses and has the opposite problem, when money gets tight they will cancel for a week or so,not realizing that she's depending on that money. She makes good money cleaning....she charges by the job rather than by the hour and since she's a fast worker she averages $18- $20 an hour. What curriculum do you use for spelling? Our Church school uses Abeka ...Our 3rd grade granddaughter really struggles so I go to school 3-4 days a week to help her. Sometimes i despair as she just doesn't seem to get it.Am anxiously waiting to hear how she did on this weeks test.Have a blessed day!

  • Love the new journal and bookmarks!!!
I also love Rissy's choice of cakes! She is totally a girlie girl@!
    Love, Tina

  • @barmil59 -

Unfortunately, for you, I use A Beka spelling. I also use CLE's basic phonics/reading program. We have "reading" in our school and discuss funny sounds (ch, sh, sch, ight, etc.) in hopes that will boost their spelling ability. Two girls have a hard time reading, but they are doing okay in spelling and I'm assuming the CLE program is helping.

  • Pretty journal and loved seeing the birthday preparations...the cake looks wonderful...I am sure she will love the next one you make for her! Look forward to seeing the pics then...
