  • A Beautiful Weekend

    We couldn't have had a more beautiful weekend.  The weather was just gorgeous.  Lots of sun.  Temperatures in the low 70's.  Not much wind.  Just perfect!

    Friday, Jesse shampooed the carpets (finally got my carpet cleaning machine to work) and the sun streaming through the windows made the carpets look even brighter!

    ========================
    I've started the large task of going through old pictures (before 1930) from the garage file cabinet.  I had already identified, dated, and filed the pictures according to the decade they were taken.   I haven't even touched the 3 boxes Jesse retrieved from the attic last week.  Those pictures will be incorporated into the ones I pulled from the garage file cabinet.  I've started envelopes with decades divided in two envelopes.  After I've gone through everything, I'll be able to see how many pictures I have from each decade, then place them in order in the photo album.

    I came across my family's VERY old photo book (dating back to mid 1800s) and showed Jesse.  For some reason, he had never seen the book before.  It's red velvet with a gold filigree embellished mirror on the front.  It has metal handles and a metal clasp holding it closed.  The velvet rubs off onto anything it touches, so I have it sitting on my desk on top of a piece of plastic.

    Two different pages from inside the book will give you an idea of how old these pictures are.  Amazingly, I remember my grandma and I sitting for hours and hours (over the years) talking about who's who.

    As I said, this book goes waaaaay back.

    ============================

    Things are beginning to look pulled together, again.  It's been so long since I've been able to attend to the details I had always puttered with around here.  I put a gold tablecloth on the dining room table and this will be "the look" until the day after Thanksgiving.

    When Jesse cleaned the carpet, he moved Tangos's cage into the kitchen table area.  Chirper was in cat heaven and the bird was loving all the attention!

    If you look "through the bird," and at the back of her cage, you can see Chirper's little face peering in at Tango!

    ===========================

    Speaking of cats . . . .  Stormy got out the front door and Jesse was  unsuccessful catching her.  He asked me to come out and get her.  I had one leg in our raised planter and the other on the cement walkway, grabbed Stormy by the tail as she ran past me, and proceeded to fall flat on my face and left wrist.  My right ankle was scratched by the flowerbed's lawn timbers and I couldn't easily get up.  My ankle burned, because it had been scraped, although it didn't show a mark . . . at first!  My wrist really hurt (the one I've had problems with all summer).  As the minutes wore on, a huge scrape mark appeared around my ankle - like some had taken a whip to me!  Then, the back ache stuff started.  I must have wrenched everything in my spine from my neck to my waist.  I believe I'm more sore this morning than I was Saturday night.  And . . . I didn't even catch the cat.  Of course, knowing how good she has it here, she came home on her own!

    =============================

    Little Bit continues to try to dig under the fence to the neighbor's yard.  Saturday evening, Sushi barked and barked (reminded me of Lassie's bark when Timmy fell down a well!!!!) and we went outside to find her pulling at Little Bit's back legs to pull him back from under the fence!  Then, Jesse tethered him with a really long leash.  It didn't have a clasp to go on his collar, so he knotted the tether around Little Bit's collar's fabric.  Little Bit got away 3 times and we wondered how he was undoing a knot that was under his chin or at the back of his neck.

    We happened to look outside and saw SUSHI pulling on the knot to free him.  She is an incredibly smart dog - one of the smartest I've ever owned (Blue Heeler).

    =====================

    As I said, the weekend was beautiful.  The girls played outside on Saturday.  Somehow, Luci sprained her ankle, or twisted her lower leg and had to be on bed rest after Saturday's incident.

    Yesterday, Annamarie and Rissy were back outside, soaking up every bit of sun!

    They enjoyed every drop of their popsicles!

    And poor Luci stayed inside keeping busy with activity books and drawing!

    ========================

    Rissy has an ortho appointment (second opinion) this afternoon.  Jesse will take her.  I don't think I could stay upright long enough to go with them, seeing that I've now twisted my back!

    I have my ultra sound check up and then an appointment with the surgeon tomorrow.  It will be a busy week.
