  • A Beautiful Weekend

    We couldn't have had a more beautiful weekend.  The weather was just gorgeous.  Lots of sun.  Temperatures in the low 70's.  Not much wind.  Just perfect!

    Friday, Jesse shampooed the carpets (finally got my carpet cleaning machine to work) and the sun streaming through the windows made the carpets look even brighter!

    ========================
    I've started the large task of going through old pictures (before 1930) from the garage file cabinet.  I had already identified, dated, and filed the pictures according to the decade they were taken.   I haven't even touched the 3 boxes Jesse retrieved from the attic last week.  Those pictures will be incorporated into the ones I pulled from the garage file cabinet.  I've started envelopes with decades divided in two envelopes.  After I've gone through everything, I'll be able to see how many pictures I have from each decade, then place them in order in the photo album.

    I came across my family's VERY old photo book (dating back to mid 1800s) and showed Jesse.  For some reason, he had never seen the book before.  It's red velvet with a gold filigree embellished mirror on the front.  It has metal handles and a metal clasp holding it closed.  The velvet rubs off onto anything it touches, so I have it sitting on my desk on top of a piece of plastic.

    Two different pages from inside the book will give you an idea of how old these pictures are.  Amazingly, I remember my grandma and I sitting for hours and hours (over the years) talking about who's who.

    As I said, this book goes waaaaay back.

    ============================

    Things are beginning to look pulled together, again.  It's been so long since I've been able to attend to the details I had always puttered with around here.  I put a gold tablecloth on the dining room table and this will be "the look" until the day after Thanksgiving.

    ================================

    When Jesse cleaned the carpet, he moved Tangos's cage into the kitchen table area.  Chirper was in cat heaven and the bird was loving all the attention!

    If you look "through the bird," and at the back of her cage, you can see Chirper's little face peering in at Tango!

    ===========================

    Speaking of cats . . . .  Stormy got out the front door and Jesse was  unsuccessful catching her.  He asked me to come out and get her.  I had one leg in our raised planter and the other on the cement walkway, grabbed Stormy by the tail as she ran past me, and proceeded to fall flat on my face and left wrist.  My right ankle was scratched by the flowerbed's lawn timbers and I couldn't easily get up.  My ankle burned, because it had been scraped, although it didn't show a mark . . . at first!  My wrist really hurt (the one I've had problems with all summer).  As the minutes wore on, a huge scrape mark appeared around my ankle - like some had taken a whip to me!  Then, the back ache stuff started.  I must have wrenched everything in my spine from my neck to my waist.  I believe I'm more sore this morning than I was Saturday night.  And . . . I didn't even catch the cat.  Of course, knowing how good she has it here, she came home on her own!

    =============================

    Little Bit continues to try to dig under the fence to the neighbor's yard.  Saturday evening, Sushi barked and barked (reminded me of Lassie's bark when Timmy fell down a well!!!!) and we went outside to find her pulling at Little Bit's back legs to pull him back from under the fence!  Then, Jesse tethered him with a really long leash.  It didn't have a clasp to go on his collar, so he knotted the tether around Little Bit's collar's fabric.  Little Bit got away 3 times and we wondered how he was undoing a knot that was under his chin or at the back of his neck.

    We happened to look outside and saw SUSHI pulling on the knot to free him.  She is an incredibly smart dog - one of the smartest I've ever owned (Blue Heeler).

    =====================

    As I said, the weekend was beautiful.  The girls played outside on Saturday.  Somehow, Luci sprained her ankle, or twisted her lower leg and had to be on bed rest after Saturday's incident.

    Yesterday, Annamarie and Rissy were back outside, soaking up every bit of sun!

    They enjoyed every drop of their popsicles!

    And poor Luci stayed inside keeping busy with activity books and drawing!

    ========================

    Rissy has an ortho appointment (second opinion) this afternoon.  Jesse will take her.  I don't think I could stay upright long enough to go with them, seeing that I've now twisted my back!

    I have my ultra sound check up and then an appointment with the surgeon tomorrow.  It will be a busy week.

    Be Blessed  ~

  • That photo album is amazing! What a wonderful gift to have.  I'm so sorry to hear that you fell. I hope you recuperate quickly.  Have a blessed week my friend.

  • It was pretty nice around here too.... The sun started shining Sat. morning around 10:00 & stayed that way the rest of the weekend!  I think it's still shining today, but it sure isn't warming my house up very much!  I should go bake something just for the heat!

    Sure hope your back is feeling better soon!  I have to ask...."What were you thinking?"  Trying to go after a cat?!?!?!?!?  *shakes finger at you*

    Cool photo album!  I wish we had something like that...

  • What a TREAURE!!!! ;) How neat!! :)

  • Oh, I love old photo albums.  Sorry to hear about your fall, and hope you will soon feel better.

  • You certainly do have interesting pets! Imagine Sushi pulling Little Bit so he wouldn't crawl under the fence! LOL! That is so cute. I have a really old family Bible in the U.S. which also has a lot of old family photos in it. They are so interesting! I hope your back gets back to normal quickly. Silly kitty! How nice to have clean carpets! YAY Jesse!

  • Those dogs!! They are so smart, BOTH of them.

    I'd be feeling that bathtub call my name....

  • Soaking up the sun--we did that today! I even fed the baby (nephew) on the patio.

    And thanks for the package for Shannon, she's working on her thank you notes!

  • We used to have a dog named Little Bit. She never grew very big. She was a chihuahua.

    I hope your aches go away and give you some peace. I also love those old photo albums. I'm glad we don't dress like that anymore but it looks pretty.

  • Oh what a beautiful treasure you have there in the photo album!! Pets always make life more interesting don't they? Long story but our cat had us all worried that he was on the verge of expiring but he's bounced back amazingly. I'm so glad because he really is a part of the family and I felt tortured at the thought of losing him.

    I hope you are recovering well from your spill! I also hope the appointments all go well or went well if you've already gone. ~with prayers~Dawne

  • The photo album is amazing! What an heirloom to have! Oh, these pets just keep us hopping, don't they? You be more careful from now on, though! Take care & take it easy.

  • What an amazing photo album! I'm so glad you got it, because at least you will appreciate it.

    Thanks so much for the help, Sushi...good grief! There's such a thing as being *too* smart.

    Are you doing any better from your fall?
