  • Pictureless Tuesday

    I’m still without pictures.  I’ve decided to order another USB cord for my camera.  Two of them, actually.  That way, if the first one quits working, I’ll have a back up and will be able to order another back up while using the second USB cord.  The whole thing is a pain.  I’m a spoiled brat and want to upload pictures!

    ==================================

    First of all, thank you for all of your kind remarks about how cute Jesse’s puppy is – he was thrilled that she was an Internet hit!!!  Apparently, I’m having better success potty training her than he is.  I took her out again this morning, walked back to where Sampson leaves his “stuff” and she did the same thing, immediately . . . left her little puppy dropping mark.  It’s only 19° right now . . . I hope my husband realizes the sacrifice I’m making for HIS puppy!  LOL  Yesterday, we played with her a bunch to make her tired and then put her in her crate while we had school.  She slept while we schooled and didn’t wake up until we took a break for lunch.  Good dog!  Still having a hard time reconciling myself to the fact her name is Sushi.  I tend to call her Sush!!!

    Some friends asked how the other pets were taking to Sushi.  They aren’t.  Chirper thinks she’s okay most of the time, but is growling & hissing at her this morning.  This is the first time I’ve ever heard him do that!  Sampson hangs out with me.  No, (correction) . . . Sampson hangs out *ON* me.  He sits on my feet and leans against my leg for protection.  Sushi has way too much energy for his tired old bones.  Stormy is in shock.  She can’t believe I brought Chirper home . . .and now . . .  a D-O-G????  Poor Stormy.  She hangs out in Annamarie’s & Luci’s room and is taking her meals back there in bed!  I’m sure she wishes we’d move her litter box in there!  Walking down the hall to our bathroom to get to her litter box is a cautious trek for her!  Meanwhile, she is sequestered and spending much time in bed swooning from the shock of a new dog!

    ==================================

    We’re caught up with home school, again.  Yesterday was a long day at the table.  We haven’t done penmanship, but I’m not concerned about that as much as the core subjects.  I didn’t teach Friday – too chaotic . . . or, something . . . I don’t remember.  So, yesterday, we did Friday’s and Monday’s agenda and now we’re ready for Tuesday.  Luci is still needing help writing letters and she is confused with numbers (like the teen family, the twenty family, etc.) and will need some extra time writing those on paper.  The best way to remember them is to write them repeatedly.  Another surprise about Luci – as dramatic and larger than life as her emotions are exhibited, she has the tiniest handwriting!  I think I expected large, bold letters with a twist and turn flair all over the paper!!!  She writes like a chemist . . .tiny, neat, and concise!

    ===================================

    One of my character sketch books (Volume 2) arrived yesterday, over 450 pages.  Yee haw, I was excited!!!  That’s the $40 hard cover book I got for about $8.  There isn’t a jacket on the book, but the cover of the book looks like a beautifully bound encyclopedia.  Still a pretty book and in more than “Good” condition, as the seller stated.  The book has wonderful science studies of different animals and birds and a character trait is attributed to each animal with a Bible lesson and Scripture to back up the character trait.  I’m so excited and can’t wait to get Volume 1.  I haven’t found Volume 3 at the same good discounted price.  So, I’ll be patient until I find one.  Patience is another character trait studied in these books!  This book can be used year after year as children grow into young adults.  It’s fantastic!

    ===================================

    The girls are wanting waffles for breakfast.  Not the EASY, frozen ones, but ones from Wava the waffle maker!  That means measuring ingredients to make the batter.  I might need another cup of coffee before cooking breakfast!

    ===================================

    Jesse is taking off of work on Thursday.  Rissy has an early morning appointment with our long standing pediatrician.  She’s seen Rissy since she was just weeks old.  She will check out Rissy’s legs and hips and why Rissy is having such back problems and pain.  Then, she’ll refer her to an orthopedist, if she thinks Rissy needs that.  I know what will happen already!  The orthopedist will say there’s nothing wrong with her bones, it must be neurological and the neurologist will say that since it’s neurological, no surgery will help, so there’s nothing to be done.  Then, we will end up back in the pediatrician’s office.  Hopefully, she will order the xrays a chiropractor needs (the child’s hips and lower back WHILE STANDING).  If the doctor orders the xrays, we will only have to pay for chiropractic adjustments and insurance will pay for the xrays.  It’s pretty bad when your 7yo asks you to “pop” her back each night and has to take Ibuprofen for her back pain.  She’s asked for a heating pad as a gift – poor thing!

    We also have to visit our banker to renew our equity line of credit.

    Seems like there was one more thing – oh yes!  The pets.  Sushi needs her incision site checked and Chirper is ready for another nail clipping.

    A VERY busy Thursday and a VERY cold day!  Today will be 44, tomorrow 54, and Thursday 24 for the day’s high!  Brrrr!  What a rotten day to be running around town!

    ====================================

    Today’s To Do List:
    *  Annamarie’s laundry (did Rissy’s yesterday)
    *  Call Child Welfare (didn’t call yesterday, decided to wait since it was a Monday)
    *  Prepare a financial statement for our banker (for Thursday appt)
    *  Finish vacuuming the house
    *  Start to organize the cupboards in the foster children’s room

    I doubt I will accomplish everything on my list.  A financial statement with pen & ink will be a start and clearing out *anything* in the foster children’s room will be good.  I still haven’t done anything about curtains or hanging things on the wall in that room.

    Gotta run!

    Be blessed  ~

  • Our highs Thursday and Friday are supposed to be 13 and 11, with wind chills below zero. Eeek! I’m about to go to the hardware store to get the stuff we need to wire up Lucy’s dog house with a heat bulb. Thought I might go to the store, but everybody in town will probably be going right now. The White Death is approaching… can you see me rolling my eyes?

  • I am so sorry Rissy is in pain. I know what that is like as I have had pain all my life. In some ways, it does a lot towards developing character in you… if you make the right choices and don’t feel sorry for yourself. Rissy seems like that kind of kid. Glad you got caught up on school work. I had to laugh at the other animal’s reactions to a new puppy in the house! I look forward to more pictures when you get that cable!

  • Those new character sketch books sound like something I would have enjoyed using when I was teaching!  Glad that you are getting back on track.  Have you heard anything about new foster children?

    Have a blessed day!

    Love,

    Judy

  • Poor other mistreated animals!?!?!?!    Bringing a D-O-G into their house!

    Didn’t you just buy a new camera cord?  Is someone chewing on them?

    Camryn has been seeing a chiropractor for her back & ankles/feet/calves since summer of 07 & it has done her a world of good.  Now if she’d do the stretches for her Achilles’ & hamstrings that she keeps telling her to do…she’d be a whole lot better off!    Hope you get the X-rays you need to be able to get her some relief!

    Stay warm!  (I say that while I’m totally freezing!)

  • @JourneyOf7 -

    Yes I did just buy a camera cord. An e-bay copycat and not a Canon brand. I don’t know if that’s why the cord wore out so quickly, or . . . if the hole in the camera (where the cord plugs in) is a little warped and eventually warps the cords. 99 cents for an e-bay cord makes buying them less painful!

    Since typing my blog this morning, someone actually called me and said they would be our new worker.

    He began making excuses and I interrupted with, “What is your phone number? Are you in Canadian or Oklahoma County? What division are you in? (he hesitated – I rattled off the division number that SHOULD be handling our case and he said that WAS his division) Will you be our foster worker or are you a recruiter?” He simmered down. Told me the file he had on us had 3 pages. I told him to look for a 4 – 5 inch thick file . . . that would be ours and fairly easy to spot. He’s going to look for the file AND the home study this afternoon, after a noon meeting, and get back with me soon.

    He said he knew it was frustrating and he was frustrated that so many families were waiting for foster care approval – especially since we had everything done and were only waiting for children to be placed. I said it was always the system and not the children that were a problem for us – the bureaucracy of paperwork . . .” He interrupted and curtly said, “We are very short staffed. It’s not that we don’t do our paperwork.” I interrupted and just as curtly countered, “You are extremely short staffed and I’m aware there is a bill awaiting approval of the hiring of several hundred more caseworkers. But you aren’t going to tell me they don’t make you jump through hoops of paperwork.” He quietly agreed. I told him we had complied IMMEDIATELY with every little thing they had required. We hadn’t stalled on one thing. They asked – they got it.

    They don’t like it when you know their job! But, it’s the best way to deal with them. Otherwise, you DO get pushed to the bottom of the barrel.

    We’ll see how quickly he calls me back! Thanks for asking!

  • Poor Rissy, I do hope that she will get proper attention and treatment for her back pain. I also pray you will get some movement on your “case” there certainly does seem to be a lot of shuffling of caseworkers and files!

    I do hope all the animals will be able to find a peace and be able to live comfortably with each other! Blessings~Dawne
