  • The Appointment was Canceled

Yep.  The gal doing the home study called a few hours before her appointment to cancel.  An “emergency” came up.   She wanted to come by Friday or Saturday and I explained to her Jesse would be unavailable (including Sat’s) for the next week.

I told her I had an old home study I had edited with new info that was virtually copy work for her.

She wanted to come by Saturday and just have me hand her our paperwork for her to look at while she stood on the porch.  Uh uh – no way!  I had a feeling if I couldn’t rope her inside, I’d be a senior citizen before this all went through.  She definitely perked up when I told her I had copied every document she had asked for AND my girls had an appointment next week to deem them healthy and I would have that paperwork next Friday for her.

So, she agreed to come at 1pm this Friday and I told her she should also plan to spend time talking to me after going through the previous home study and me filling in the blanks for the new one.  AND . . . I wanted (persistently insisted, was more like it)  her to do a walk through of our house.  (See how smart you become after you have already been hooked – or rooked – by the state?)

She said I sounded really efficient (I think that means easy job for her!!!) and she would plan on chatting with me Friday and doing a walk through.  I told her I had an “X” through the paragraphs she’d have to rewrite – like the info about our new home and backyard and discussing with our “new” girls how they felt about fostering.  I also told her they had been in counseling for 2 months already about what to expect when the foster children came to their home and what it would be like when it was time for those same children to move.

She began to sense this would be easy money and decided to work with me – after I “worked” her over!!!

I can’t say I’m disappointed.  Not sleeping well last night and doing so much housework this morning has left me with not much of a personality!

On top of that, Chriper pulled down one of my slippery, silky valance thingies that is wrapped around a wooden pole in the formal living room.  I didn’t care about that.  Things happen in every day life.  But, the worst thing, is my vacuum burned up while vacuuming our den.  Not a belt gone bad – a motor on fire.  The smell was lovely (not) and Jesse even suggested I pull out some candles!  It’s sitting in my garage (dumb, Jesse keeps cans of gasoline out there – but I’m really not the brightest bulb on the tree today!!!!)  and now I am only using my Kirby.  The one whose replacement bags cost an arm and a leg.  We had talked about buying a Dyson, but I don’t think this was the week we had in mind spending the money on one!

Whew-eeee.  I’m one tired puppy.  Glad I only have to pull together a quick meal.  I’m trying the same skillet casserole I made the other night with the tainted ground beef.  This time I’ll use ground turkey because it’s cheaper and I bet we won’t taste the difference.

There you have my sad story. All typical when dealing with the foster care people.  I DO remember this was one of the real reasons we soured on fostering last time around.

Oh yeah.  Rolling loud thunder storms are moving in with tornadoes.  I decided to put on a dress instead of my bathrobe over my underwear.  A sure guaranty that if there WAS a tornado I’d be caught on the nightly news being interviewed as that lady in Oklahoma with the bathrobe and underwear on and barefoot talking about her casserole was just a cookin’ when a big ol’ wind blew in.  Sounded like a freight train comin’, it did!

    I’m goofy – I KNOW I’m tired!

  • Sounds like you will keep her on her toes! Wish more in the system were as good as you.
Enjoy your relaxing evening… unless a tornado hits!
Had to laugh at the word picture you created!

  • I can’t imagine there’s ever a day where you are short on personality, if anything you are personality plus! My heart goes out to you having to push that Kirby around they are heavy suckers! (pun intended).

I know this has got to be extremely frustrating (the system) but you know, it does seem like at least some action is happening. It will all come together. God Bless! ~Dawne
