Thursday Thirteen #33
Thirteen Things
I SURVIVED THIS MONTH1. August 5 – Bought Luci’s gifts, wrapped them, and planned her birthday party within 3 days of her birthday. The longest I’ve ever waited to pull a birthday party together.
2. August 12 – Waited until the same day JoAnn and Aolani were arriving to clean my house, which was a mess!
3. August 16 – Started all day foster care classes. They were boring (we already took the classes in 2001) and would have rather been visiting with my SIL, who was at home with our girls.
4. August 17 – bil said wife was having serious surgery (she had told me earlier they were contemplating spine surgery) and bil, Frank, told JoAnn he would be here to pick her up the next day, so she could help care for his wife after her surgery on the 19th.
.5. August 18 – Frank didn’t call or show up to pick up JoAnn. Jesse’s close friend’s (Camilo) son was admitted to the E.R. Jesse stayed with Camilo’s family until the doctors decided to do an appendectomy.
6. August 19 – We decided VERY suddenly (the night of the 18th) to drive to Amarillo to check on JoAnn’s and Jesse’s dad, who was to soon be admitted to an Alzheimer’s facility. A LONG BORING DRIVE TO AMARILLO with high dollar prices for gasoline!
7. August 20 – Bought 2-3 months worth of groceries for my in-laws, divided meat into smaller portions and froze the packages. Drove ALL THE WAY back home. But, stopped at a great steak place for dinner. Everyone got sick.
8. August 21 – The steak dinner from the night before still left everyone feeling sick. We all laid around the house with no motivation. Tired from our trip and not feeling very much like eating.
9. August 22 – Found out good friend was innocent, but seriously involved in a law suit. I offered to help in any way possible. (Can’t discuss details, sorry) It was very upsetting to me that she was in serious trouble.
10. August 23 – More foster classes all day (not quite as bad as the first ones) and then afterwards, drove 100 miles to an Italian restaurant. I’m NOT spontaneous and had to rearrange my train of thought. AND, face the fact that sitting on my rear end for another couple of hours; as if sitting while driving to Amarillo and back again and then sitting in the all day foster class wasn’t enough already, was about to happen to me again!
11. August 24 – Jesse went to work, a new guy showed up and asked if he could help, after two passes of the lawn mower, the guy cut his fingers and Jesse had to rush him to the E.R. He said he’d be responsible for the E.R. bill (we’ll pay cash – we don’t have employees, so there is no worker’s comp). Meanwhile, later in the afternoon, Stephanie (oldest daughter) showed up to get a walking cast we had in our attic. She had fallen down some stairs the night before and re-injured the same foot she had hurt when falling on our icy driveway last winter. (sigh)
12. August 25 – The hospital that had treated the new worker called to inform me they wanted him to go to a reconstructive surgeon (YIKES !!!!!) and our hearts stopped. E.R. bill will be a couple thousand and contemplating the cost of a surgeon . . . well you get the panic picture!
That same day, I had to take Annamarie & Luci into the medical doctor for some problems they each had and was grateful for what looks like an easy fix and nothing serious.
Found out later in the day that the injured fingers gentleman’s family has told Jesse to not pay his medical bills (Jesse still insists on the E.R. part) and they will not allow the relative to create any more medical bills for us. They think he reached under the mower on purpose to “knick” the finger tips because he thinks we are rich and could extract money from us. We are rich – but not financially! He has none of his family’s support.
13. August 26 - Previously to all of the afore mentioned drama happening, Jesse had invited his aunt and uncle to dinner to see JoAnn and our house. So, scurry around to make it half way presentable is what we did all day. Dinner was easy to fix and his aunt is always enjoyable to talk to because she has lots of funny stories.
13 1/2. August 27 – I took JoAnn to Wal-Mart (happy, happy me! I got to go to Wal-Mart again!!! LOL) to buy her mother things her mother’s food stamps won’t pay for (like t-paper, cleaning products, etc.) and some extra food. She also bought fabric for my girls to each have two new winter dresses. I dropped her off at her mother’s house and took the girls to Applebee’s for a lunch of chef salad. We dropped off a movie that was late (again). As I was leaving the movie rental’s parking lot, I felt the beginning of a headache. By the time I got home I had to take off my head covering and, eventually, take out my bun. My hair felt like it hurt. I took a headache prescription pill and dozed for half an hour, but the pain kept waking me up. Jesse called and said he’d be home soon. This was the first time in 35 years I’ve been bothered by light or sound. My migraine problem recently resurfaced at the end of last year and I can honestly say, since my teens, I’ve only had about 5 headaches in my life.
This headache was a real doozey. I HAD to pay two bills online and did so in a stupor. Then, I took an actual “migraine pill” (caffergot) after Jesse got home and I went to bed. Sleep was restless because the pill contains caffeine, but I do feel much better today.
And, THAT, my friends, has been the busy month of August . . . BUT . . . I have survived, by the grace of God.
P.S. I’m going to go back through this post to check for typos. My keyboard is acting up again and the letter “f” almost consistently doesn’t work, along with a few others. I edited yesterday’s blog two or three times before I finally gave up.
I really DO know how to spell, but my keyboard doesn’t! LOL!!!

Busy, busy month! Are you planning on taking Sept. off?
Take care of yourself!
Is it time for another drop, or a new keyboard? You certainly did have plenty to deal with this month! Hope the head is much better now.
@JourneyOf7 -
A friend from church, Reba, called today and I only told a bit of what’s been going on. She beautifully said, “That’s what Glenn calls “life happening” while you plan what you plan to do with your days!”

Can you believe this??? . . . After typing and mentioning the keyboard, I decided it needed to be dropped again. But, instead of unplugging it, I pulled the drawer it sits on ALL THE WAY OUT and dropped it several times. The little “fake front” on the drawer (that flips up and down) fell off in my lap! I thought, “You know? This doesn’t even need to be repaired today. I’ll worry about it tomorrow!” And here it sits beside me. I guess the holes the screws were in got to big and need to be plugged up with match sticks before I attempt to fix it. And I just don’t feel like doing ANYTHING today. I’ve paid bills all morning and made phone calls. Sitting on my bottom (once again). Now, I’m eating lunch and writing to you. I *WILL* relax today . . . I WILL!!!!
