    This will be a
disjointed day and I’m not planning on accomplishing much house work -
although, if I could pull myself out of my not-awake-yet stupor, I
COULD be doing some laundry at this early hour!!  Jesse just left for work, Luci
is awake, and Rissy just waddled down the hall to say good-bye to her
    dad.

Luci has an appointment at 10:30 with the doctor who dispenses her
psych prescriptions.  I have a 2:30 appointment with my own doctor to
see how I’m doing and probably to check my thyroid and triglyceride
levels.  I’ll have to go back for the lab work tomorrow morning, as
there is no way I can fast until 2:30 without my blood sugar dropping
dangerously.   I wouldn’t be able to drive.

A 10:30 and 2:30 medical appointment looks like us girls might qualify
for lunch out – and I’m not talking McDonald’s again!!!!  Maybe
Chili’s.  That seems to be the most popular vote among us each time!
I also have to make a dumb Wal-Mart run to pick up some frozen chicken
breasts.  I can’t believe I ran completely out, since all we eat is
    those and ground beef!!!!

We quit eating pork and shellfish about 3 years ago.  I read “The
Maker’s Diet” and decided the foods that were forbidden in the old
testament tended to all be scavenger-type animals and (since we are
what we eat) maybe those items weren’t as good for us as we are led to
believe.  We don’t believe it’s a *sin* to eat those things (I don’t
want to mislead anyone) but we did get the impression that God’s
original diet of “clean” foods might still apply today, as far as the
most healthy and non-healthy meats we eat.  I mentioned to Jesse,
yesterday, that I think we need to consider adding pork back into our
diets (maybe 3 times a month, or so) because of pork prices being so
cheap at times and the cost of everything else being so high.  We
wouldn’t add the stuff with sodium nitrate (sausage, bacon, etc)
because of the cancer causing agents in it, but a pork roast or lean
pork chop wouldn’t kill us and might help with the budget.  Probably a meat pizza with Italian sausage and pepperoni once a month wouldn’t kill us either.  Taco or barbecued chicken pizzas just don’t taste “American” to me!!!!

Speaking of grocery budgets, I’m beginning to think of more things to do
with potatoes and different shaped pastas.  Even though mostacioli
(sp?) is so similar to spaghetti (I use the same sauce &
seasonings), because it’s baked and I add American cheese throughout
(like lasagna layers) it tastes different from my spaghetti recipe.
Also, I’ve been thinking of making pasta salads with chunks of chicken
added (no one will eat tuna in our house except me) – but I would use
less chicken than I use when we fix JUST chicken for a meal.  We are a
meat eating family and cutting meat from a meal would be sorely
missed!  So, I think stretching the budget with potato or pasta is the
way to go.  That’s only good until they raise the price of those items,
    as well!!

Have no idea what’s for dinner to night.  NOT chicken!  That’s for sure!

Chirper slept with me last night (just what I have been hoping he’d do)
and laid atop my right shoulder with his little head on part of my
pillow.  I remember at one point in the middle of the night, he became
playful.  He stood on my chest, purring loudly, and fell sideways on
top of my face.  I woke up to furry ribs in my mouth and scooted him
off.  The fact I woke up was like a direct issuance of a play permit!
I refused to move any more and he eventually settled down on my
    shoulder and pillow again.

We went to church at Whispering Pines (COC) yesterday morning.  Then ate lunch at Golden Coral (an all you can place, for those of you who aren’t familiar).  We came home and were so sleepy.  I actually slept (you KNOW that’s weird for me) for an hour with Jesse.  We woke up and were waiting for someone to come help us set up a bookkeeping system for Jesse’s business on our computer and Jesse was still a little drowsy.  Here’s what I found going on behind my back!!!

Jesse & Chirper needing more sleep!

Chirper perches on our shoulders like our cockatiel.  Maybe he’s more of a chirper-bird than cat?????!!!

  • I always thought there was a good reason God made those dietary laws. I don’t believe it’s about our salvation, but it is for our good.

  • We went to Wal-Mart the other day and I just couldn’t believe the prices on some of the things. Our budget is going to be a lot tighter too!

  • Your kitty is cheating on you! LOL! I can’t wait to hear what the doctor says about Luci!!!! I messaged you. The box came! WOW!

  • Hubby and I just found a copy of the Makers diet at a thrift shop, and will be reading it soon. I tend to believe the dietary laws are more for health now anyway, but man its hard to give up bacon and sausage! LOL I don’t thing my hubby is too crazy about giving up pork…he is Cuban and Puerto Rican, so he loves a lot of pork (in fact, we had that almost every day of our vacation of with his family!) I think we may do what you are talking about, as far as having it occasionally to help with cost…nothing like a huge pork roast for $0.99 a lb! And cut out a lot of the processed stuff.

It was definitely a hardship for me to give up pork. I’m German and grew up with pork roasts & sauerkraut!!! Seafood was equally as hard. I grew up near San Francisco with an abundant supply of shrimp, etc. I DO miss both, but both are scavenger animals/fish. So, I ate shrimp for the first time last December and again on Father’s Day of this year. I had center cut pork steaks at Red Rock Ranch (that restaurant out by Hefner Lake) and was no worse the wear! I DO have to mention here, my cholesterol and triglycerides dropped significantly after we stopped eating shellfish and pork.

  • Happy Monday! I pray all appointments went well and that you’ve enjoyed the day :) Simple pleasures for me today — sitting outside to read, getting a latte while my boys get haircuts, and listening to praise music while I visit Xanga friends. I do have homework to do, but there’s always tomorrow —  in honor of Gone With the Wind which was published on this day in history. Blessings, Laurie

or you could say, “Fiddle dee dee!”

  • What a sweet baby! I’m glad you found just what you wanted in a cat, Cher.

Do y’all do beans at all? That’s another one of those cheapy meals. We really like lentil curry around here. Cheap and quick to fix. Oh, and low-fat as well. But that might be a little too “vegetarian” for y’all.
