A New Monday, A New Start
I’m slipping slowly behind in my chores, so this will be short paragraphs about all of our news!
* Never made it to Sam’s on Friday to buy that ground beef. Important “cat business” took precedence. Maybe the girls and I can do that later this afternoon. This whole week will be around 93 degrees with less than 20% chance of rain. That’s good (the no rain part) for Jesse’s business, because he can catch up. But, I don’t know how he’ll work (he has no help this year) each day in 90+ temps. It’s more than I could handle, I DO know that.
* I’m listening to my washer run. The familiar sound at the start of each day!!! After my little bit of laundry, I will wash the guest bedroom quilts and pillow shams. The new cat definitely left his mark!
* The girls went out early to play with their squirt guns. Bees chased them back inside. Who wants to be inside during the summer months? So unfair! That’s why I thought going to Sam’s this afternoon would be a necessary trip (Jesse also needs lots of bottled water), despite the fact I detest shopping there without Jesse.
* I really want to set up the small pool this week. But it requires moving lots of their former jungle gym pieces and other large toys, then copiously sweeping each stone off the patio so a hole isn’t poked into the bottom of the new pool.
* I’m starting a study of a certain item that always mysteriously shows up in my carpets. (Lori K – don’t spill the beans!) and will share it once I have collected enough photographic evidence.
* I still have pulled nothing from the freezer for tonight’s meal. Another reason to go to Sam’s and get those chubs of ground beef.
* Jesse spent time (off and on) yesterday on the carpeted garage floor (still uncomfortable in the heat) trying to put together the charcoal grill he got for Father’s Day. I’m not sure he’s liking the work we have caused him by not buying something pre-assembled!!! Unfortunately, his shorts and shirts have to be taken back. Shorts were too big and shirts too hot, despite my attempt to find ones that were light weight.
* Everyone has made their beds except for me. I’m seriously thinking of changing the sheets, but may wait until tomorrow since I have the guest room bedding today. May not make my bed at all today (gasp!!! covering my mouth with my hand)!
* I have a lovely hissing sound coming periodically from under my dining room table. Today, I deemed the new cat healthy enough to be let out of quarantine. Two days on antibiotics should be sufficient. He has gingerly explored the house and then run back to “his room” and then stepped out a little further each time. I’m glad he feels secure in the guest room, because that’s where I’ll put him when we leave the house. I don’t trust him or the other pets to be left alone together, just yet.
* “The cat” has a name. Chirper Elzabad. (pronounced el-zay-bad) Went through a variety of names, prayed and prayed, and came up blank until this morning. Jesse started calling him “little bit” which is very fitting NOW. But, what if he grows hearty like Stormy did??? So, we needed a name that would grow with him. I seriously considered Chipper, because he is always chipper, but that would most likely be shortened to “Chip” the name of our cockatiel that died May 2007. So, what’s a pet parent to do? I prayed and kept hearing Chirper (liked it better than just Chirp) and it was close enough to “Chirp” that he will still come when called. Elzabad means: “Given of God” – and no one can present a good argument that God didn’t, indeed, give him to us. We had considered “Nathan” which means (recompense – as in reward and/or replacement) but calling “Nathan” down the street (or out the back door) might lead the neighbors to think we’d lost one of our many children!!! So, Chirper Elzabad it is.
* Finally, it’s nice to know we have a new “guard” in the house. I’m not sure this is such a happy title for the one doing the guarding. Poor Stormy has stationed herself under the formal dining room table and is maliciously watching Chirper explore his new territory . . . HER territory. She is NOT happy at all, but at least hasn’t gone after him – in fact, has run the opposite direction and only puffs up her fur. She’s only growled the first day.
She has finally stationed herself at a command post that pretty much gives her full view of when the “enemy” is approaching!
I really MUST run!

Glad to meet you, Sir Chirper Elzabad!
Poor Stormy does look like she is on the alert!
Have a wonderful busy day!
Tina
Glad the new kitty is adjusting!! Hopefully Stormy will soon too!
RYC – My little summer get away space is very tempting!! I try to spend as much of my weekend there as posible with my family. It is a real treat to the kids to have supper out there as well. The bugs are no problem at all as it *does have mosquito netting all around , that can be shut when needed.
too cute! Poor Stormy!! <Grin>
Look at Stormy’s eyes….she has that Eat **** and Die Before I Tag Your Tater look LOL
Now I’m trying to figure out what it is I’m not supposed to be spilling the beans about. Maybe the girls will remember.
