Is It REALLY Friday???
I can’t believe the end of the week is really here. This has been one of those weeks that has literally flown by.
Yesterday, Stephanie had a fantastic 30th birthday. I’ll write about that, maybe, tomorrow and post some pictures.
Today I have JanaLyn with me (she spent the night) and Stephanie will pick her up this afternoon when she gets off work. I mainly have my own laundry to do and the dishwasher to empty. I never got around to vacuuming the girls’ bedrooms – I was flying yesterday to get things ready for Stephanie’s birthday dinner of marinated steaks. twice baked potatoes, corn, and salad. I still had to frost the triple chocolate cake. The cake was in the freezer overnight (a trick I learned to make a cake more moist) and I quickly spread the (tons) of chocolate fudge frosting on it, then I inserted 30 candles with “one to grow on” in the middle. But the house is still in pretty good shape this morning.
Unfortunately, the girls won’t be able to play in the yard today. We had the guy that does the chemical stuff for Jesse’s mowing clients come spray our front and back yard. He was here yesterday. It was quite embarrassing, as ALL of my girls wanted to meet “Dad’s friend Rocky” and little heads pushed past me, as I stood with the door half open. I acquiesced and opened the door so they could meet him! He said the chemicals for ticks, fleas, & chiggers was pretty potent and the yard needed to be avoided for a few days. It was okay for Sampson to go out and do his business, since he does it, and then comes immediately back inside. Stormy won’t be allowed outside at all because she sits in the flowerbeds (ROFLOL !!! NOT exactly “flowerbeds”, more like bushes!) and that’s too long to have contact with the chemicals, which could harm her.
I’ll share the few pictures I have left of the Lori K’s family visit and call it a “blog” for the day!
Somehow I missed one picture of Sarah giving Stormy a neck massage. Stormy was a little spooked by so many little people running around the house, and we didn’t see much of her. I think she might have spent a lot of time hiding underneath the beds!!! But, she decided Sarah might be an “ok” one of those little people – plus, Sarah isn’t exactly a “little people.” She is about as tall as Lori & I!!!
On Sunday morning, it was wild around here. Imagine 11 people (Jesse had to work on Sunday because rain storms were moving in that night) eating breakfast and trying to get dressed for church and then two children (Rissy and Abby) being tender-headed and also “blessed” with hair that easily tangles!!!!
I didn’t know it, but besides being a college professor, Doug has a side-job of being a hairdresser! LOL!!! Imagine that???!!!! That’s Jesse at the computer.
Poor Abby. Brushing her hair is exactly like brushing Rissy’s hair. She winces at almost every swipe of the brush, cries and grabs her head, and is extremely tense waiting for the never ending tangles to be brushed smooth again..
Doug’s next client was an easier one. As you can see, a line was beginning to form!
l think Sarah wasn’t as much of a problem as poor Abby. I doubt that any of the clients left him tips, but he could definitely make some “moola” off of this talent he has successfully kept hidden from me for years!
Luci has the curliest hair I’ve ever seen and in the mornings she looks like a wild-woman! I wanted to get a picture of her “bubble head bun” – as she calls it!
All it is, is a ponytail that’s not completely pulled through the finally twist of the ponytail elastic, thus making a bun. It only stays neat for a while until she begins to twist her hair and mess with it. This was RIGHT after it had been done.
We made it to church, but you know the rest of my “church story” from a few blogs back. Needless to say, Luci’s “bubble head bun” was unstrung (as were her mother’s nerves) by the end of the church service!!!
We said our good byes in the church parking lot and that was end of our nice visit.

Sounds like ya’ll had a great time!
Camryn has hair that tangles to the nth degree! All she has to do is turn her head & all that time spent brushing it is for naught.
Actually, mine used to be like that too, but I’ve finally outgrown it. Cam’s been using Caitlin’s shampoo (Garnier Fructis for sleek & shiny hair… or something like that) & it’s made a world of difference!!!! It’s sleek & shiny & not quite so tangly! I cut the T’s hair rather short last year b/c I was tired of fighting w/ them to brush it. Tahni’s is kind of tangly… not quite so bad as Cam’s. Taryn has finally learned to brush hers herself. All my girls have really, REALLY thick hair, so trying to untangle it is really hard! (Caitlin actually has enough for 2 or 3 people… easy!)
I’m killing time, can you tell?
….. Two hours & 10ish minutes……
Happy weekend!
How sweet! I love to see Daddies doing hair. When I was in the hospital having our second daughter, my husband did Hannah’s hair. When he brought her to visit, I thought it looked pretty funny, but I didn’t say anything because I was so tickled that he even tried.

We don’t cut our hair (don’t even trim the ends) making Rissy’s plight even more exaggerated. But, I’ve started putting her hair in a little square patch (what would be bangs) with a small ponytail (loose) and then the whole thing is drawn into a ponytail elastic “bun” at the base of her neck. We have VERY few tangles these days. She uses a shampoo and conditioner by L’oreal for very dry or chemically processed hair. The conditioner is actually in a jar like greasy pudding. I use the same condition since my hair is about to my waist and very fine and thin. It breaks off easily. Annmarie could make a TV commercial for hair because she has lots of beautiful shiny hair that swings and glows in the sun. She gets a headache if I put it on top in a bun. I can only imagine . . .
Jesse will brush the other girls’ hair; but, brushing poor Rissy’s gives him the heebie jeebies! (I have NO idea how that’s supposed to be spelled!!!) He lets me style their hair, but he WILL brush 2 of the 3 girls’ to help me out.
Wow, looks like a bit of a mad house…or should I say a “fun house”
Doug is doing a fine job with the curling iron no less- very impressive!
RYC: lol! It is actually my sister’s pool and yes, it is about 18 foot around 4 foot deep. It is really plenty big for the 6 kids to play in with 2-3 rafts and a few noodles. Yes, the ground has to be very level but it goes up real easy like a tent. It was $500- including everything- pump, chemicals, the works! I think she got it at Target.
Hope this helps ya!
RYC: Yes it is winter here…I am half a world away from you! Happy weekend. ~Colleen~
i used to like my dad washing my hair — his big hand on my head felt good! by the way, my sister-in-law went to beauty school, and they taught her to brush long hair from the bottom up — whether wet or dry, using short, flicking strokes. use a very hard, plastic brush with several rows of bristles (a wet-hair brush — avon used to sell them. works on dry hair, too). i had waist-length hair, and this worked. you could comb the tangles out in merely seconds. i couldn’t believe it. but, maybe you’ve already tried this.
This post reminds me of my father.
My hair is so terribly fine, and curls up on the nape of my neck. Growing up, it would be so knotty. Mother would jerk and pull my poor tender head and make me cry and cry. My father would sit for hours and brush my long hair and get all the knots out. It would hurt some because I am so tender headed, but he was so gentle and patient.
