  • Make that “Melting Monday”

They weren’t kidding when they predicted hot temps for today.  My Suburban said it was hovering between 99 and 100 degrees in the late afternoon.

We didn’t get out of our 11am doctor appointment until 1pm – she was running late AND we just took a long time discussing Luci.

From there we went to the Post Office Box and argued (no kidding, “argued”) about who wanted to eat what and where.  We ended up at a Chinese buffet.  We left there and it felt sultry hot.

From there, we visited 3 thrift stores looking for bargains mainly for next fall/winter.  Found a few pieces for now, but I’ll show pictures and THEN tell you how much I spent.

I found a pink velveteen nightgown and lavender long sleeve t-shirt.

Found 2 other long sleeve t-shirts in pink & blue with small flowers around the neck, and a cute striped sweater.

Found a darling yellow fleece top with a bicycle embroidered on it and a white t-shirt with little flowers across the chest.

Last of all, I found a darling printed green sun-dress that can be worn to play in NOW, and some cute sleeveless summer tops for them to wear now while playing.  One is blue checked and the other is small pink roses – VERY Rissy!  There was also a denim skirt with embroidered flowers in a size 7, so either Rissy or Luci can wear that in fall.

Last of all, I found two more dresses (one red print & the other solid navy with some flowers at the neck) that will be appropriate this fall. And also a pink t-shirt for now or fall.

My grand total??????   $21 or $22 dollars!!!  Despite the heat, I felt it was a profitable day.

We came home, dying of thirst, and I made a gallon of lemonade.  I hate to tell you, but it’s almost gone!

I had planned some chicken with asiago cheese and spinach sausage, and beef smoked sausage, for dinner.  Right now the only thing that sounds appealing for dinner is ice water!  I can’t imagine how Jesse is mowing out in this heat.  He said he had two more customers to do and they were large properties!  Maybe he’ll only want ice water for dinner and I won’t have to cook at all!

  • Dear Cherylyn, I wouldn’t mind a “little” of that heat.  I have had a small electric heater on most of the day.  It is right at 70 degrees outside and this house usually stay cooler.  We have been having blackberry winter the last few days.  This should be our last cool spell for the spring.  Wish we could each share some of the weather!!  God Bless  ~Judy

  • Great bargains!!

  • Sorry about the heat. I don’t have to tell ya to drink lots of water

I hope that the 3rd opinion doctor was a good fit for ya’ll and she answered all of your questions and shared her knowledge with you.

  • Our thrift stores around here are not very promising.  I’ve tried several times to shop in them.  The prices are high.  And the clothing is pitiful.  I find better deals in the sales bins at Target, Walmart, and Mervyn’s.  Looks like you got some great deals, I’m jealous.  Ha! Ha!

  • Oh, I don’t like the heat! I feel sorry for your Honey out there in the hot sun! I am sure he drinks plenty of water. Looks like you found some really sweet bargains! We decided this afternoon we will make a run of some second hand shops. My “summer wardrobe” is pretty pathetic, so I wish I could find a top or two. Our missionary’s budget doesn’t allow for new duds, but I have a sewing machine, and I can alter and fix up stuff I find in the second hand shops. When I got out my summer clothes, they looked …. tired! I pre-soaked and then washed them yesterday, because it seems like during storage they get stains that were not there when I put them away clean last Fall. I don’t get that! Any suggestions? The pre-soak stuff helped a little.

If you can’t buy Oxy-clean over there, can you get good old-fashioned Mule Team Borax???? That gives the laundry detergent a boost and works miracles on dingy things.

  • No, we can’t get that, but I will research what Borax is, and maybe I can find an equivalent. Thanks! We did hit some second hand shops yesterday, and I found a nice white top I can wear with anything, a patterned blue shirt, and a purple top, too. I paid 30 kroner for all, which is about $6 dollars! Before we went, I prayed, and God led me to the right places! My husband also found two short sleeved shirts, so we are blessed!

Are there some things I could buy here and ship to you????

  • Awww.. that is so sweet of you to offer, but postage is terribly expensive. I only make my family do that! LOL! There are things we miss, but we have gotten used to living without most of them. I am just so blessed that you would even think of doing that for us. You are one sweet lady!

  • @DanishDoll -

So what to do you miss????

  • I miss International Coffee Creamers and Wintergreen lifesavers, Pay Day Candy and Pizza Hut! Silly, huh? I also miss good ice cream. I really don’t like Danish ice cream, but I am thinking that is probably a good thing! LOL! I miss being able to walk into a store and find books and magazines in English. I miss clothes in my size. I miss cheap gas. I miss donuts. I miss Arbys’ OK! Gotta stop now or I will get myself all homesick! Anyway, it’s 12:24 PM and I have to get to bed! Blessings on your evening!
