Thursday Thirteen #22
Thirteen Things
I LIKE ABOUT PAPER1. Periodically we subscribe to the newspaper. When the time comes that all I find myself reading is the obituaries, the comics, and “Dear Abby,” I cancel it for a while again!
2. I prefer to receive bills in the mail, rather than JUST via email. I guess I’m a touchy-feely (tangible) person! Plus, I like that paper back-up in my files. Which is also why I had to recently purge my files of electric bills from 8 years ago!!!
3. Paper is made into CASH!!! And who doesn’t like carrying around a little cash?
4. I collect boxes of stationery. Besides having 3 types of “Thank You Notes” from which to choose, I probably have at least 5 other types of stationery to write notes.
5. I use spiral notebooks and steno pads for EVERY thought that pops into my head, EVERY business phone call I make, and I take notes like my TO DO lists, my What I Ordered lists, etc. I never throw them away. I file them. I’ve been known to retrieve the name of a great plumber we used 3 years ago, simply by looking through my pads (I date each page, by the way).
6. Paper comes in the form of greeting/birthday/get well, etc. cards. I love receiving them as much as I love sending them to people.
7. I hoard receipts in my dresser drawer whenever I buy something that might need to be be returned. You JUST never know . . .
8. I also enjoy calendars. I buy myself an expensive one each year for the kitchen wall (Lang or Winget) , then I have one tucked under my computer’s keyboard drawer, and also have one posted in my bedroom walk-in closet. Doesn’t matter how many times a day I need the date, I can NEVER remember it.
9. Paper is made into tissues, of which I’m using copious amounts these past few days. My allergic reaction to our horse is now a full blown cold! Atchoo!
10. Post-It Notes are my friends. They keep me sane! Don’t you think they are one of the neatest inventions? I’ve even stuck them to my steering wheel when I get out of the car to remind me to pick up a child!!!! I know – my mind’s a scary thing!!!
11. I use those long skinny pads of paper with the magnet on the back for my refrigerator grocery list. We add something to it almost daily.
12. I collect pretty note pads that I keep on my desk. I use them, but frequently feel like I’m ruining part of the decorations (knick knacks) on my desk! Friends have given me some VERY pretty and lovely note pads.
13. The BIBLE IS PAPER. The most precious book and form of rescue I have ever owned.
13 1/2. I know this will be an odd statement, coming from someone who loves paper. I would LOVE to own a paper shredder. There’s just something about changing the form of paper (I like to rip up junk mail!!!!) that seems enormously fun!

I still have all my calendars since 1977 ish…. I used to use them as my diary. Of course, half the time I can’t read them now, but I can’t bear to think of giving them up. Now I use Xanga…..
Hope you’re feeling better soon!
Now aren’t you creative?! See, I’ve never even taken the time to sit down and determine WHY I like paper! Since I’m organizing a bazillion things right now, and most of it paper, I’m not feeling real positive about it! LOL!
I love my shredder! We shred everything that comes with our name or address on them…even junk mail. You can take that shredded paper and put it in the compost pile for your household waste too.
I wish I had been the one to invent Post-It notes, Wite-Out, paper clips and staples.
