  • I'm On a Roll

In light of my last Thursday Thirteen post, I am working fast and furiously and am on a roll with home projects.  Jesse, surprisingly, was in agreement and is pitching in to help.  Normally, he leaves the housecleaning and decorating projects to me, but he was jumping in with suggestions of NEW CARPETING (at least in the main part of the house) and I just let him have at it!!!!  He asked me for a list of things we need to hire someone to do and wants to get them done - pronto!

We had a very relaxing week-end.  He had to go give his mother a shot yesterday (I don't know what for) and wasn't gone more than the time it took him to go there, fill up our Suburban with gas, and come home.  The girls and I have stayed home since Friday's errand day.  I continue to be successful in staying away from groups of people, so we don't bring home the flu-bug.

Yesterday I got my new file cabinet moved into its position at my desk and have started the grueling task of going through files and thinning them out.  My most UN-favorite job when I worked and it's still not a favorite activity of mine.  I haven't cleaned out files in 5 years or more and figure we don't need our electric bills from 1992 from the house we used to live in!

This morning, I spent some time browsing my Amish book catalog for books I'd like to order.  Right now (March 15 - 31) they have a 25% discount on school books.  I'll just order everything in one clean sweep.

After moving the desk and file cabinet a bit, we moved some furniture and lamps around yesterday.  I'm pleased with the "new" look.  Jesse has a mahogany 4 drawer chest from the formal living room as a night stand and I think I'll put his old, smaller one in the guest room.  The formal living room has a much smaller round end-table replacing the chest and it makes the room look larger.   Next goal is to go through Luci's toys and clean out her cupboard, then I will be able to transfer excess homeschool books from the kitchen into a cupboard, where all is unseen.

I plan to purge the bookshelves in the den.  They hold lots of children's books and a variety of knick knacks.  Lots of stuff to dust and I'm thinking maybe it's time to unclutter for a while.  I like the things on display, but I like the idea of not having to dust so many things, too!

Rissy is still loving her new room, even though it contains only her clothes.  We need to start transferring some more of her stuff into the room, but I need to buy some shelving first.

Speaking of Rissy, the whole reason she has her own room is 1) because of her need for some "alone time" (Luci and Annamarie follow her like a shadow) AND 2) the fact she has been such a mature and tremendous help to me this past year.  Sunday, without being asked, she swept and spot cleaned the kitchen cooking/eating area tile floors, cleaned both bathrooms and her bathtub, and then vacuumed the whole house.  She learned a lot of cleaning secrets from Emily when she cleaned for us and it's sweet to watch Rissy mimic Emily's ways!

Since I'm a pro now at downloading pictures from my digital camera,
I'll try to post pictures as different things are accomplished.
Nothing like accountability when tackling cleaning projects!

Now, if I could just get around to baking those M & M cookies and peanut butter cookies . . .   Today and tomorrow will be dreary, rainy days that are perfect for baking!

  • Sounds like things are going well for you!
I think I would let my hubby too if he wanted to put in new carpet!
Glad I don't have carpet though. Hardwood floors are best when we burn wood!
