  • Computer, Taxes, Luau, & Cold

My computer is back!  Things look different: I think my monitor setting needs to be adjusted.  Something I don't know how to do!  On top of things looking different, Xanga has changed THEIR look and, this morning, I'm sitting here quite befuddled!  I'm not sure I like Xanga's new look, but, then again, I usually don't like ANY kind of change.

What was wrong with my computer?  It was packed with dust and cat hair!  Jesse-boy sleeps at my feet when I am on the computer and the unit sits on the carpet under my desk.  Apparently, it was so clogged that the motor or fan for the CD drive burned up.  Gross, huh?!!!  Jesse said he knew he was supposed to periodically clean the CPU (I had no clue!) and forgot to do so.  Of course, he is the same man who forgets to change, or clean, our filters in our heat/air system!  With all of those gory details behind us, it cost $20 to clean things up, download and load back again my files, put in a new CD, and add a floppy disc drive.  Jesse's friend is a good friend, no???  I guess so!!!

Today I'm making my batches of Amish bread.  I didn't get to the starter when I should have (Feb. 5th, I think!!!) and I've been feeding it every so many days with sugar, flour, and milk to keep from killing the starter.  I now have LOTS more starter than usual, and I'm thinking of making things other than the normal recipes:  like biscuits, cornbread, and pancake or waffle batter.

Speaking of waffles, I pulled out my old waffle iron this weekend.  I bought it on eBay - a HEAVY 1960's model.  This was the second time I used it and it took a couple of tries to alter the batter and the waffle iron's temperature to make yummy waffles.  They were so much better than the frozen store-bought ones we've become accustomed to eating!

Yesterday, Rissy and I went shopping for her birthday party stuff.  She had that Mexican fiesta last year and after buying her pinata and other party things, she decided (before last year's party arrived) that THIS YEAR she wanted a Hawaiian luau.  I was VERY glad to find a party store that stocked luau things in February!  I think it will be lots of fun and, after the amount of money I spent on favors and decorations, it will be the ONLY thing she does for her birthday.  No special lunch or trip to the pizza place for games, etc.

Now that the computer is back up and running, I will file for our tax refund.  I have all of the paperwork together.  It felt like it was a huge chore this year, because I always make sure I can back up everything I state on the form with customer's names and addresses (our ledger sheets) and receipts for gasoline and repair of equipment.  That was the biggest headache, since I had been sick during the busiest part of last year's lawn season!  The year started with organized little envelopes entitled "April", "May", "June" and so forth.  Sometime, after that point, my drawer became a sea of receipts with no rhyme or reason!  THAT has been my chore for the past two weeks!  Organizing!  I don't mind organizing and rather enjoy it after it's been done, but "forced organizing" with a "time limit" always makes me quake in my boots.

We have a fire going in the fireplace today, I'll start my baking soon, and I have planned chili for dinner tonight to take the chill out of the house.  We have some cold weather hitting today (like much of the nation) and all of the above sounds like a way to battle the nippiness and make comforting smells - so we, at least, "think" we're warm!!

  • So glad it wasn't anything serious wrong with the computer. And you yourself can keep it clean. Just buy one of those bottles of canned air at the office supply store. Take the cover off and blow it out once in awhile!

As for the xanga change. If you look on the page somewhere there is a link to click that will take it back to the old look. I hated the new look also!

Send some Amish bread my way! Would love some of your starter! LOL

    Blessings,
    Tina

  • Yay for a clean computer!!!!  I think we're gonna work on our taxes tonight, after John's date night w/ Cait & Cam....  Stay warm!!!  ~Lori

  • So wonderful that your computer is all clean and new again.  It sounds so cozy when you write that you have a fire going and that you're making a pot of Chili to warm up the house.  I'd love a fireplace, however, in Florida it wouldn't be too conducive  to our climate :) .  Blessings for a wonderful week and stay warm.

  • You don't have to use that new xanga main page.  I don't like it either.  If I wanted to be on facebook I'd go there.  I like the old xanga page.  There should be a place to click to go back to the old page.
