    THIRTEEN THINGS
    I LIKE ABOUT WINTER

    1.  Using our fireplace.  It makes things so cozy in the front of the house.  I admit that watching a burning fire leaves me transfixed.

    2.  Wearing wool blend socks.  They keep my feet soooo warm!  I've enjoyed picking out new patterns these past two winters.

    3.  Our garage.  That means we can pull our vehicle into the warm and dry spot that's normally reserved for junk in the summer months!  It makes the heater work faster and means no scraping of ice or brushing off snow.

    4.  Having a large vehicle that heats up quickly.  That's ONE good thing about a big engine, gas guzzler!

    5.  Super Bowl day with party food.  Even though I'm not a football fan, it's a day we've made special by fixing party foods to nibble and sitting together to watch a game (whose teams the girls and I know nothing about!).  Jesse and I always have indigestion that night after eating all that bad-for-you food, but continue to torture ourselves, year after year - because . . .  it's a tradition!

    6.  Looking outside at the frosty grass, trees, roads, and rooftops.

    7.  Watching thick ice on the walkways melt, when I throw rock salt on the ground.  Too cool!

    8.  Feeding the wild birds with my cockatiel's rejected seed.  She doesn't eat sun flower seeds, or other large seeds, like most cockatiels.  This way, nothing is wasted.

    9.  Fixing and eating potato soup. corn chowder, chili, casseroles, pot roast meals, etc.. . .

    10.  More cooking and baking than I normally do.  The oven really gets a workout in the winter months!

    11.  Seeing my husband all bundled up in his jacket, hat, gloves, etc. to go outside and gather firewood.  He looks like the role of "great protector" over our family (after God, of course!).  I think he's handsome!

    12.  Fluffy, fresh snow on the trees, the roads, and in our yard.  After someone steps in it, or a car drives down the road, it's just not the same.

    13.  Spotting a chicken hawk perched at the top of a tree or fence post while driving down an isolated road.  They look like big, fluffy owls with a hawk profile.

After reading this list, it looks more like I enjoy escaping winter; but, that's all part of the delight, isn't it?
