Thursday Thirteen #12
Thirteen Habits That
Bring Me ComfortI am a creature of habit and not drawn to spontaneity. Listed below are 13 of my habits that bring me comfort.
1. I wear the same two bathrobes - one for winter and one for spring/summer. My winter robe has holes, but it's my "winter" robe!
2. I have used the same shampoo and conditioner for years. Not only does the combination work well, it smells "right" and like my hair has been properly cleaned!
3. I like driving the same vehicle and don't look forward to buying a new one. I know where everything is located on my dash and steering wheel. When I drive another (or new) car, I almost shipwreck looking for the heat or a/c controls, or the radio, or windshield wipers . . . The world is safer with me in my familiar vehicle!
4. I feed the cats on the same left and right side at every meal. Male cat on the left, female on the right. What's so weird is that they automatically go to those differentiated sides, even though the cat food in each bowl is the same! The bowls are blue and pink but . . . How do they know???
5. I place my groceries in the cart in the same type of order each week. Cans together, refrigerated things together, frozen foods together . . . Actually, it helps me at check out time to replace the bags with heavier things on the bottom and bread/lettuce on top.
6. I have the same early morning routine I've had for twenty-so years. Get up and push the coffee pot button on. Sit down and watch the "Today" show. Get up at a commercial and get a cup of coffee. Partly this is due to the fact I don't move well in the morning hours! If we've forgotten to prepare coffee in the pot the night before, it throws off my whole morning!
7. I pray before each and every meal for my family and friends. After someone is done saying grace, I keep my head bowed and pray for those on my prayer list. I'm afraid, during the busyness of my day, I will forget if I don't take that one moment (while I'm praying for my food, anyway) to pray for others.
8. When I cook things, I use the exact, same dish every single time. If that ONE dish is dirty in the dishwasher, I'll remove it, wash it by hand, and then cook. It's not like I don't have other pots, pans, and dishes that would work just fine; it's just that, I'm a pathetic creature of habit.
9. I always go to the same stores, never branching out. I shop the same grocery stores, the same clothing stores, the same stores for bath care products, etc. Who knows what I'm missing out on???
10. I have worn the same cologne, burned the same scented candles, and used the same lotions for more than a hundred years - maybe not one hundred, but more than ten (or twenty)!
11. I remember phone numbers and addresses from my past. I no longer need to remember my first phone number or address, since we moved when I was in sixth grade, but I do remember numbers (involuntarily) as well as relative's and friend's numbers from way-back-when. I like that connection to my past, but wish I could empty my brain of useless phone numbers and place my week's grocery list in that space, instead!
12. At each restaurant, I order the same thing that is tried and true. At Chili's, it is the Old Timer Burger. At Applebee's, it is the fried chicken salad. At Bennigan's, it is the tilapia. At Cracker Barrel, it is the chicken fried chicken. You get the picture!
13. I have a routine menu I serve over and over - same main dish gets the same side dishes. I try to break that habit and change up cheesy potatoes rather than macaroni and cheese. But, I often go back to "what is right, served with whatever" I choose. OCD - I know!

I am the "same" with everything too! But I married a guy who is not. So I am trying to learn to be more flexible! Got your vests done and am waiting on hubby to print the postage label. They turned out great, I think!

I can relate to several of those, just ask Reba. She often accuses me of having OCD. I call it being organized. A friend of mine told me it is not technically OCD unless it interfered with your daily life. Mine doesn't. It actually helps my daily life because I know where to find things.
This sounds way too familiar! (: So interesting to hear other people's habits. I can really relate to remembering numbers - I just can't help it.
Hope your Thursday is a good one. Mj
#11 is soooo me!!! The thing is, I don't just remember *my* old numbers, I remember *all* the numbers I've called. There are occasions that I have a number pop in my head, but for some reason, can't place who it belongs to. If I could remember names as well as the numbers they go w/, I'd be good. (However, considering that I use speed dial so often now, it's not quite as big a deal...)
Fun stuff.... Have a great day! ~Lori
