Chores and Cooking
I had a nice surprise yesterday evening. James took us out for Mexican food. Although I truly don't mind cooking most days, it is always nice to be treated to a dinner I didn't cook.
Yesterday afternoon, Jesse and James went to visit their mother and took Annamarie and Rissy with them. Yes! I had the house to myself for a few hours. I can't say that I did self-centered things that I can only do when alone, but I did sing a lot (something I hate to do - always worried I'll get on someone else's nerves!) and took a leisurely shower. It was just enough time to rejuvenate my calm!
I also fixed
the winter arrangements for my foyer and formal dining room table.
AND, moved all the storage boxes holding the Christmas greenery to the
garage - FINALLY!!!
Ends up, I didn't have to sign anything at the bank (yay bank!) and, while I stayed home, I ordered my mom's birthday present. My oldest sister came up with a brilliant gift idea. My mom loves going to the movie theaters and my sister sent a link to Regal Theaters where you can purchase gift cards! You can use the card to buy tickets and purchase food at the concession stand. I have a limited imagination when it comes to gift cards and have no idea of all the places that now offer cards. Anyway, I mailed her birthday card (last night when we went to dinner) with a note tucked inside saying she'd be receiving a small gift in the mail. Hopefully, the card will reach her by the 18th.We started our
new textbooks yesterday and I'll have to adjust assignments between the
two girls, but Annamarie will do okay sitting in the same "class" as
Rissy, as long as what I require of Rissy isn't the same thing I give
Annamarie. She actually recognized and read a few words out loud! I
was so happy! The hardest thing is keeping Rissy from blurting out the
answer and putting in her two cents about what Annamarie "thinks"!!!!
Yesterday, it went something like this: Me - Annamarie, tell me what
you see in the picture? Rissy - She sees trees and a lake . . . "
(sigh)
With this cold weather approaching tomorrow, and staying for the next week +, I'm thinking of trying my hand at fixing another turkey. We never enjoyed that turkey dinner we were looking forward to eating. Having the oven turned on, when it's 20 degrees outside, sounds like a good idea. I figure if I put the turkey in the oven for a couple of days . . . No! Just kidding!!! We've figured out part of our oven problem is the pre-heat cycle. It beeps 100 degrees below the desired temperature. With my oven thermomotor, I'm having better success when I cook. I hope it works today when I make my Amish friendship bread.I woke up in the middle of the night (3-ish) with one of those killer headaches. It wasn't nearly as bad as the ones in November, but it continued to haunt my sleep. I repeatedly dreamed about going to a doctor or going to my closet for a pill to get relief. I woke up 3 or 4 times, but was too tired to get out of bed and actually take a headache pill. I took one this morning and it's made the pain level tolerable. I hope I don't have to put up with these off and on for a year like I did when I was in my late teens. I guess I will deal with whatever ends up happening.
Not a lot on
my agenda today - laundry (smile) and some light dusting &
vacuuming. Nothing too tedious. Mainly I want to bake my bread and
try making different flavor combinations.
I'll be fine today if I keep things low key. Dinner will be simple. I have ground beef thawed and some zucchini and yellow squash to cook. I have NO idea what I'll make. Depends on how creative I feel by the end of the day!!!

I made cute little meatloaf muffins the other day and everyone but Sarah likes them. It was cool.
Hooray for gift cards and Mexican food! I'm not at all imaginative about gifts. Rachel's dollhouse was about as "cool" as I ever get.
Thank you so much for stopping by and introducing yourself! You are welcome anytime ~
Ooh mexican! We have not done that in quite a while! (Taco Bell does NOT count!)
I used to wake up with those headaches...but thank the Lord I have not for months! I hope you are feeling better now!
