Thursday Thirteen #6???
This is a day late - but, submitted for your reading pleasure, nonetheless!!!!!
THIRTEEN THINGS I LIKE
TO DO IN FALL
1. I like to plant mums in burgundy (or orange), white, and yellow colors. But, that won't become a reality this year. I'm not yet up to it physically.
2. I like to decorate around the house with pumpkins, etc. but I won't be doing that, either. I'm still keeping things pretty "simple" in my life. I'll be doing good to put a fall looking center piece on my dining room table!
3. I enjoy changing the way I cook and making "fall-ish" recipes and serving hearty breads. Soups, stews, beef briskets, pot roasts, roast chicken dinners, etc.
4. I like to get the clothes ready for the girls and I for when the cooler weather comes. It can arrive without notice.
5. I don't enjoy (but it's a job nonetheless) hiding all of the girls really summery looking dresses and white shoes - except for tennis shoes. Something about sailor style dresses in September just doesn't seem right!!!
6. I like anticipating the fall line-up on television. I KNOW there won't be anything on that I like or that meets my approval, but each year I keep hoping! Forever the optimist!
7. It's fascinating to me to see Monarch butterflies everywhere. This is "the" month in Oklahoma
8. Another watchful pass time is waiting for the reappearance of bluejays and cardinals around my yard and back fence. I feed the wild birds hoping to encourage them to pick my house for shelter.
9. I'm enjoying breaking out the fall scents of candles - things with cinnamon or candles that smell like banana bread baking, etc. Changing the room sprays to match the candles is another fall "job." So is changing my summery kitchen towels from cheerful birds and red apples to the solid, deeper hues of brick red and dark blue.
10. We are enjoying the last of the fresh fruit in the stores before our choices become bananas, oranges, and apples only!
11. Usually, I like starting the children in new textbooks, but I have to admit that, this year, I haven't even opened the teacher's manuals except for one time. I saw what I was going to be teaching, got spooked, and haven't opened them since! What a squirrel, I am!
12. I'm regretfully putting away some of my favorite summer dresses that look silly after Labor Day (just like the sailor dresses!!!) and contemplating the more appropriate darker colors. I love my white dresses with the miniature pink, or lavender, or blue rosebuds, etc. I like my fall clothes too (and I'm very grateful I HAVE a change of clothes), but I DO love the dainty flowers on some of the summer things.
13. I adore opening the windows and letting in the fresh air. Air without the strangling humidity like we have had throughout the summer months. We skipped our hot Indian summer this year and each morning I am able to air out the house before the temps rise to the 80's. It makes all the house seem cleaner and crispy with that outdoor air - which probably isn't true. The air is probably laden with ragweed and tree pollens - but *I* think it smells pure!!!!

You wanna come switch out our clothes? That's one of those jobs I really dislike.... My kids are generally weird, too... they wanna wear shorts all winter. (& my oldest usually does.
)
RYC: Totally beyond out of the question!
Here it is 9:30 & I still haven't eaten supper...... I should go do that! Happy weekend! ~Lori
Are you saying that the weather can change in a moments notice in Oklahoma? I'm shocked! LOL! I also enjoy many of those things about fall. I was at the OK state fair this afternoon with my daughter and I thought I was going to need my jacket at first. It was just like fall. I love it!
Loved your Thursday Thirteen. I know what you mean about wearing summery things after Labor Day. White is a no no..LOL. However, a lot of people in Florida still wear white and summery things as we do live in a tropical climate. I love FALL and will try and follow the fall "rules". I have never been to Oklahoma, but it must be so beautiful in fall. I do miss the real change of seasons here. Thanks so much for your comment on my post. I have cleaned out my closet, and bathroom. I purchased a couple of Yankee Candles (Autum Wreath and Pumpkin Spice) at Linens and Things, as they sell them now! I also got buy one get one half off and 20% off one. That did my heart good as I love to save money when I shop. I haven't done the mending or ironing yet, but it's only Saturday. I really admire your TV values and morals. It's a gift. Glad you're feeling better. It's been such a blessing to start to get to know you better. May God continue to bless and watch over your family!
I just noticed on your sidebar that you went to law school. I was a paralegal for many years!
Oh no! The big clothes switch. Ok, not thinking about it right now.
I love fall too, but it's also depressing to watch the year slowly yield to winter. Once it's here, I'm ok but the yielding is hard.
