Thirteen Colors I Like And, Where I Like Them 1. RED: On the wall (paint), but never in a floral arrangement. My grandmother sang for a funeral home and men always had RED roses or carnations on their caskets. I've quit buying RED for our dresses as the girls and I move toward more muted shades. NEVER, EVER in, or on, a vehicle. I LOVE RED cardinals and also RED apples and towels in my kitchen.
2. PERIWINKLE: I like it just about everywhere. Our guestroom is PERIWINKLE and the girls and I own dresses in that color. Floral arrangements. Crayons.
3. LEMON YELLOW: Only in the kitchen as an accent color against cobalt blue. Usually in the fall, I'll make one silk floral arrangement of sun flowers with black centers.
4. CREAM: Love it in floral arrangements, table centerpieces, table linens, accent color against dark taupe or celery (sage) green. I can't wear the color because my own coloring is CREAM and I disappear when I put on anything CREAM.
5. NAVY: A color I never tire of using. Would like it in a bedroom, den, or foyer. I love fine china in NAVY with gold trim. I wear a lot of NAVY. I don't like it in floral arrangements because it doesn't look natural.
6. SAGE GREEN: Another color I use a lot when decorating. It also goes with so many colors in floral arrangements. We have many dresses in SAGE GREEN. I find candles in this color very soothing and they usually smell herbal - which I also like.
7. DEEP PURPLE (PLUM or EGGPLANT): I like using it (paint) on an accent wall. I like it in paintings. I think it's very striking in floral arrangements; especially hydrangeas, irises, and berries. Although I don't use it, I like the Tuscany colors in kitchens. I wear a lot of dresses in plum colors. I like candles and soaps (lavender or berry scents).
8. BROWN: (Odd, I know!) In furniture - the darker, the better. No bleached wood or painted furniture for me! I like medium-dark BROWN shoes and I carry a BROWN purse in the summer. BROWN horses. Mahogany or walnut picture frames. BROWN coffee beans.
9. MAUVE: I really like this color everywhere, but it's so out of date to use when decorating that I've reluctantly let go. I still use it in floral arrangements and for dress fabric. Whenever I find a candle with a scent I like, I grab it. Crayons.
10. PINK: In its true form, it's beautiful! Carnations. Roses. Cherry salt water taffy. PINK & white pinstripe or checks in a little girl's room. Soaps. Candles. Pepto Bismol.
11. BRIGHT WHITE: Vehicles. Fine china. Table linens. Kitchen cabinets. Major appliances and small kitchen appliances. Sheets, underwear, kitchen wash rags, white blouses . . . I love Clorox because there's nothing like bleached white items!!! Stationery. WHITE headcoverings. WHITE eyelet bedding for little girls. DON'T LIKE WHITE purses or shoes.
12. BURGANDY: Another color that has lost some of its decorating popularity; but, I work it in, whenever I can, with accent knick knacks. We wear dresses in BURGUNDY instead of red. It seems to show up most in fabrics made by Waverly.
13. BLACK: I love this color but don't use it as much as I'd like when decorating. Maybe that's because I don't care for contemporary designs. My clothing in fall & winter. Winter headcoverings. Shoes. Leggings. Purses. Dress coats. Cloth napkins on a white tablecloth. BLACK & gold leaf knick knacks. Vehicles. Return address labels in BLACK and gold or BLACK and white. BLACK and white photos.
