    Thirteen Things about Me

    1)   I was born in St. Louis, grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, and have lived in the Oklahoma City metro since August of 1972.

    2)  I'm married to a great husband/friend and we have 5 daughters, three girls (ages 7 - 4 1/2) are still at home and homeschooled by me.

    3)  I'm a devout Christian.  A "plain" one.  The girls and I don't cut our hair, only wear modest dresses (simple in fabric and style), and I wear a headcovering.  I'm the only one "like me" at our church!  In other words, our church doesn't ask us to dress as we do or not cut our hair.

    4)  I'm a lover of children and a lover of animals.  Sadly, my cockatiel just had a heart attack and died in my hands this morning.  Two of my children were allowed to grieve and learn a lesson about life and death.  They are sad, but they saw the peacefulness and peace of little "Chip" afterwards.

    5)  I'm an avid coffee drinker and have "trained" myself to cut back and TRY to enjoy hot tea.  Sorry, it's not the same!  I've found some spicy brands of tea that have more substance than the watered down fruity teas I've sampled.

    6)  I grew up as a child participating in muscial theater.  Sometimes, when I think about my life, I can't believe I have come from singing, dancing, and performing artist to conservative Christian woman with a bevy of beautiful daughters!

    7)  I love to cook, I love homemaking and housecleaning (I know, I'm odd!!!), and take pride in caring for my family.

    8)  I also enjoy home decorating, creating silk floral/greenery arrangements, reading, and singing hymns.  Actually I sing everything!  Sometimes one of my daughters and I sound like a small operetta, as we speak to each other in song!  It drives everyone else in the house crazy!

    9)  My Bible is my instruction manual and I wouldn't make a decision or a move without going there first for guidance.  I'm blessed with a husband who is right there with me every step of the way, seeking guidance and wisdom from the same place.

    10)  I  LOVE chocolate - "milk" chocolate!  It's another habit that's hard (as hard as the coffee habit) to break.  I'm older and possess more self-control, but I DO keep my stash of See's candy hidden until "those moments" happen and chocolate is the best cure!  Chocolate in a cup of coffee is the ultimate taste experience for me!

    11)  I enjoy our family's history and work, as I find the time, at reconstructing our family roots.  I've gone back to 1835 and before that it gets sketchy, as everyone was from Germany or Switzerland and maiden names are unknown.

12.)  I've always been independent and a free spirit  and prone to walk in the direction that nudges me at the moment.  I've never thought of myself as a leader because I don't care to lead groups of people.  Others call me a leader because people automatically look to me as an example or just tag along for the ride!

    13)  FINALLY, I enjoy life.  I smile a lot.  I laugh a lot.  I find humor in most everything.  And, I'm grateful every single day for "something."   When I'm down, I play the "glad game" - thus the nickname I've acquired ~ Pollyanna!

  • Now I know why your house is always so clean!  We sing to each other too...it's a riot.  I think back to my previous life and just shake my head in wonder.

  • Very nice~  I love these kind of posts.  So nice to learn a little more about xanga friends!  :)

  • Isn't OKC a wonderful place for this kind of lifestyle? I can't picture myself happier anywhere else.

  • Yes, I can detect your spirit of frugality and obedience to God's Word. Isn't it great that we live in an area where that's appreciated?

Raising children in Belmont would be unbelievably expensive and difficult. I used to live in Menlo Park and would pass Belmont every time I took CalTrain to church. (Yes, it was too expensive to have a car when I lived in California! LOL) Ex-PEN-sive... and I realize now that people who own apartment buildings out there aren't even charging enough rent to make their loan payments. They buy for appreciation, not cash flow.

I look forward to being able to homeschool my kids and teach them to run a family business if my future you-know-who is okay with it. This is a great place to build a cultural legacy that I pray will be felt for many generations to come.
