A Quiet Week
I haven't written much because I kept thinking, "SOMETHING will happen that's worth writing about," but nothing exciting has sprung from this past week! Not in our home, anyway. I've gotten a few cleaning projects done this week - the kind you do only twice a year!!!! That's not really news worthy!
Earlier this week was the shooting rampage at Virginia Tech. On the news this morning, I got to hear Alex Baldwin rant and rave at his young daughter in a recorded phone message, because she wouldn't answer his call. Lots going on in the world, but not in my life.
Early in the week, I watched some of the college shooting coverage and then had to turn it off. Coverage of the 12th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing was yesterday, I turned that off, too. This morning Alex Baldwin - with several authoritative know-it-all's analyzing how this would affect his child custody battle (going on 6 years now!) - was the surprise news coverage, and so I switched to "Little Bear" cartoons for Luci to watch.
It's not that I don't care, I do, but all of the discussions and pointing of fingers and trying to place blame is hard to watch. It's all speculative, anyway. I'm tired of watching "Imus coverage" and what should be done about him and his big mouth . . . A two-day show on Oprah????? I'm still surprised to see coverage of Anna Nicole Smith's death and what will happen in her little girl's future. This is news? I suppose I should be grateful we aren't at war on our country's soil and there is no great famine here, either. But, these headlines are all tragic in and of themselves, just on a smaller scale than a national famine.
More pleasant things: Yesterday started some beautiful, warmer weather. The girls got to play outside most of the day and then got in trouble for squirting each other with the mega squirt guns I bought them a few weeks ago. I told them they could only squirt plants, the fence, or their jungle-gym. It wasn't warm enough to be "wet" outside. They came inside drenched AND muddy (we had steady rains for 2 days this week), surrendered their squirt gun weapons to me, and ended up being REALLY wet - in the bath tub! We're in for another few days of upper 70's. Everything smells so good in the air at this temperature after things have been soaked with a nice rain. SOON, I will seriously consider buying some flowers and plants AND vegetables. I just want to be sure there are no more frosts.
Tonight, I'm going to pick up JanaLyn at daycare and she will spend the night. I'm babysitting tomorrow (Saturday) while Stephanie works. This particular time (and I can't explain why), I think I'm more excited than JanaLyn! She is always begging to come here and, once here, wants to stay with Granny and "the girls." I think I've spent the past couple of days being excited inside because I get to pick her up and spend time with her. I've seen her several times, but it's been for birthdays or just a quick "drop by" and there hasn't been much time for me to spend JUST with her. She's ALMOST old enough to go shopping alone with Granny, or to lunch. She'll be four this summer.
Speaking of grandchildren, I got pictures (via email) from Nikki this week of Jaiden. Such a beautiful child! I haven't even had a chance to tell Jesse, much less show him the pictures. Sure wish Nikki lived closer.
I've been thinking, I'm really happy with my life right now. I have a good marriage to someone I can share things with and who is such a wonderful friend. My five children bring me lots of joy and I truly enjoy home schooling. And, we are also blessed with lovely grandchildren. Yeah, I'm happy!
